Job Title: Diesel Mechanic - Heavy-Duty Trucks and Equipment
Company: Interstate Power Systems We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Diesel Mechanic to perform maintenance, repairs, and diagnostics on heavy-duty trucks and equipment at customer sites. The ideal candidate will have expertise in troubleshooting and repairing mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems, with a strong commitment to safety, quality, and customer satisfaction. This role requires participation in an on-call rotation to provide emergency service support outside regular business hours. Key Responsibilities
- Repairs and Maintenance: Perform diagnostics, repairs, and preventive maintenance on heavy-duty trucks and equipment, including engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulic systems, and electrical components, at customer locations.
- Troubleshooting: Identify and resolve complex mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues using diagnostic tools and technical manuals.
- On-Call Rotation: Participate in the on-call schedule to respond to emergency service requests, ensuring timely and effective solutions to minimize customer downtime.
- Customer Interaction: Communicate professionally with customers to explain diagnoses, repairs, and maintenance procedures, ensuring clear understanding and satisfaction.
- Documentation: Complete detailed service reports, including parts used, labor hours, and work performed, adhering to company standards and procedures.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all safety protocols and regulations, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and adherence to OSHA and company safety standards.
- Tool and Equipment Management: Maintain and organize company-provided tools, equipment, and service vehicles to ensure operational readiness.
- Continuous Learning: Stay updated on industry advancements, manufacturer specifications, and new equipment technologies through training and self-study.
Qualifications
- Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience as a Service Technician or similar role, working on heavy-duty trucks and equipment (e.g., construction, agricultural, or industrial machinery).
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and drivetrains. Familiarity with diagnostic software and tools (e.g., Cummins INSITE, CAT ET, or similar).
- Certifications: Valid driver's license required; CDL (Commercial Driver's License) preferred. ASE certifications or manufacturer-specific certifications (e.g., Cummins, Caterpillar, or Kenworth) are a plus.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift to 50 lbs., work in various weather conditions, and perform physically demanding tasks, including climbing, bending, and standing for extended periods.
- Availability: Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
- Soft Skills: Strong problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication and customer service abilities.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical school or vocational training in diesel mechanics or heavy equipment repair preferred.
Work Environment
- This position operates in a dynamic and varied work environment, combining hands-on shop work, fieldwork, and on-call responsibilities. The role is based primarily in our shop facility, where you will perform tasks such as equipment maintenance, assembly, or fabrication in a well-equipped, industrial setting with exposure to tools, machinery, and materials. Safety protocols and personal protective equipment (PPE) are strictly enforced to ensure a secure workplace.
- Fieldwork requires travel to client sites or project locations, often involving outdoor work in varying weather conditions and terrains. Tasks in the field may include equipment installation, troubleshooting, or repairs, requiring adaptability and problem-solving in diverse settings. A valid driver's license and reliable transportation may be necessary for fieldwork assignments.
- The position includes on-call responsibilities to address urgent service needs outside regular hours, including evenings, weekends, or holidays. On-call duties require prompt response times and the ability to work under pressure to resolve critical issues efficiently. A rotating on-call schedule ensures balanced workload distribution.
- This role demands physical stamina, as it may involve lifting, standing for extended periods, and working in confined or elevated spaces. You will collaborate with a team of skilled professionals in the shop and field, fostering a supportive environment that values teamwork, safety, and quality workmanship.
