POSITION SUMMARY

The Prototype Assembler is responsible for the assembly and development of prototype units and systems for the Company. Prototype operations include: assembling, documenting, and assisting in the testing of prototype products and product components. The Prototype Assembler works closely with the Engineering and Quality teams. This position reports to the Assembly Operations Supervisor/CIC.

JOB FUNCTIONS

Include the following, but other duties may be assigned.

  • Build or wire and configure prototype units according to provided drawings, schematics and diagrams.
  • Work with the Engineering team in the development and configuration of prototype systems.
  • Maintains quality control and reliability standards.
  • Provide technical support to Engineering department.
  • Applies problem-solving skills to perform root-cause analysis and other methodologies to improve system configuration and reliability.
  • Communicate any product issues, concerns or obstacles in a timely manner to all involved parties.
  • Analyze and identify potential problems in the configuration of units in the build phase to avoid possible rework/rebuilding of products.
  • Recommends changes to products, product designs, or production processes meant to improve the performance of products during the testing process.


  • Reads and interprets blueprints and schematics. Utilize these drawings in placement of parts. Receive verbal instructions regarding duties to be performed.
  • Install and connect electrical components such as transformers, terminal boards, transistors, etc., following a blueprint.
  • Builds wiring harnesses to required specifications.
  • Effectively and efficiently runs cabling and properly terminates ends.
  • Accurately follows schematics while pinning out control boxes.
  • Communicates effectively to the status of needed parts to produce assemblies and harnesses.
  • Use any specialized tooling that is required within the respective area. Complete any necessary certifications if required to do so.
  • Connect component lead wires to printed circuit or routes and connect wires between individual component leads and other components, connectors, terminals, and contact points. Install finished assemblies or subassemblies as needed.


  • Maintain work environment in accordance with Lean 5S standards and perform tasks in accordance with company safety standards.
  • Understand BOM change process and communicate change requirements throughout build.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Workmanship Standards as well as the ISO quality system. Utilize these practices in everyday activity.



ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • A minimum of two (2) plus years of relevant experience or education which includes mechanical and electrical assembly and installation.
  • Must be detail oriented and able to multitask and prioritize demands.
  • Self-starter, ability to resolve issues and research solutions.
  • Ability to communicate information clearly and effectively.
  • Ability to work under pressure and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated organizational and creative problem solving skills.


  • Proficient in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and standard measuring devices (such as tape measures, scales, squares, etc.).
  • Ability to adapt and thrive in a constantly changing environment.
  • Able to identify and safely operate standard hand, power and air tools.


  • General understanding of piping, tubing (stainless steel) swaging and belt alignment.
