This role is instrumental to our customer-centric transformation, enabling consistent, high-quality data across the customer journey - from marketing and sales to billing, services, support and customer success. By aligning people, processes, and systems around shared data standards, this role ensures that foundational data becomes a true enabler of growth, scale and innovation. The Director of Foundational Data Strategy will join a newly formed Data Strategy team, reporting into the Finance organization.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Strategy Definitions and Innovative Stewardship:

  • Lead the discovery and alignment of standard data definitions for foundational data elements that are prioritized as strategic business initiatives
  • Facilitate cross functional workshops with business data SMEs, to collaboratively define, validate, and approve definitions, values, and business rules
  • Champion the use of AI and automation to augment data stewardship processes, documentation, improve anomaly detection, accelerate issue resolution, and scale data quality practices.
  • Maintain an enterprise data dictionary with clear ownership, approve values, and usage guidance
  • Collaborate on a data governance framework that supports decision making and change management.
  • Define and implement data quality standards, rules, and thresholds for foundational data domains
  • Embed stewardship into business processes through hands on collaboration and shared accountability with business and functional owners

Data Cataloguing and Lifecycle Management
  • Partner with data engineering and platform teams to establish a data catalogue that includes:
    • Business meta data and definitions
    • Ownership and stewardship assignments
    • Data lineage across systems
    • Lifecycle policies and access permissions from data creation through deletion
    • Ensure foundational data assets are discoverable, governed, and trusted across the enterprise

Data Harmonization and Integration
  • Lead efforts to harmonize and unify foundational data across siloed systems supporting Marketing, Sales, Legal, Finance/Billing, Customer Success, Support, Cloud and Product customer platforms
  • Define and document source of truth logic, golden record policies and hierarchy rules for account and product data
  • Collaborate with architecture and data engineering to support semantic consistency and system interoperability

Operationalization and Embedding in Business Systems
  • Work closely with technology and application teams to embed standardized definitions, business rules, and derive insights into business-critical platforms (e.g. Salesforce, CPQ, ERP, Gainsight)
  • Enable foundational data to support corporate objectives and enterprise programs such as lead to cash, customer segmentation, product pricing/packaging, and customer 360 insights
  • Drive adoption of shared data through documentation, training, stakeholder engagement, measurement, and change enablement

Team Leadership & Growth
  • Act as a player/coach, leading by example while rolling up your sleeves to deliver hands-on impact where needed
  • Onboard, mentor, and lead a small global team of data analytic professionals
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the team

Qualifications

  • 8-10+ years' experience in data management, analytics, governance or operational strategy roles - ideally within a high growth SaaS or technology environment
  • Proven ability to define and operationalize data standards, metrics, and data quality frameworks across business and IT
  • Expertise in foundational data domains such as account and product, including their lifecycle, taxonomy structure and alignment to customer journey user stories in a SaaS or technology environment
  • Skilled in facilitating workshops and cross-functional alignment with business experts, technical teams, and senior leaders
  • Familiarity with modern data cataloging, meta data management, lineage tracking, and data lifecycle discovery and requirements
  • Experience or interest in leveraging AI and automation tools to support data stewardship, data processes, and customer insights
  • Strong working knowledge of systems like Salesforce/CRM, CPQ, Data platforms (Google, Azure, Snowflake), and experience with AI and MDM tools/processes
  • Experience in leading and developing global teams with a hands-on, collaborative leadership style
  • Exceptional communication, presentation skills, stakeholder management, and influence skills
  • Degree in business administration, marketing, operations, information systems or a related field
Key Achievements:
  • Agreed upon, consistently applied definitions and business rules for foundational data across all systems and teams
  • High quality, harmonized account and product data used to drive customer insights, reporting, segmentation, and operational efficiencies
  • A scalable, business owned data stewardship and governance model in place and operating effectively
  • Foundational data and standards embedded in core systems and processes, supporting growth, scale and innovation
