CAD Drafter creates detailed technical drawings and plans for mechanical, HVAC, and plumbing systems using computer-aided design (CAD) software. Responsibilities include interpreting engineers' designs, preparing construction documents, coordinating with project teams, ensuring drawings comply with codes and standards, and updating plans as needed throughout the project lifecycle. The role requires strong attention to detail, proficiency in CAD software, and knowledge of mechanical and plumbing system layouts. The Drafter assists project managers with day-to-day operations while working with all members of the company and customers.

Experience/Education Requirements:



  • AA Degree in Engineering, Drafting, or related field of study, or two years in a drafter role.
  • Experience with 3D modeling, parametric design or mechanical industry experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft suite products, CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, Revit, SolidWorks, etc. and willingness to learn new drafting software and technologies.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical documents Knowledge of materials and fabrication techniques.
  • Familiarity with industry codes, standards and best practices (e.g., ASME standards).
  • Solid understanding of mechanical systems, manufacturing processes and technical drawing standards.
  • Strong written, verbal, mathematical, communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Valid state driver's license with a clean driving record for travel as needed for role.

  • Prepare clear, complete, and accurate working plans and detail drawings from rough or detailed sketches or notes from project managers, architects, or engineers according to specified dimensions by Computer Aided Design (CAD) system.
  • Check dimensions of parts, materials to be used, relation of one part to another, and relation of various parts to whole structure of project.
  • Make all adjustments or changes as directed by design professional.
  • Bring all discrepancies between design professional drawings and actual site conditions to the attention of the project manager.
  • Draw finished designs from plans and specifications or from other engineering / architectural documentation.
  • Acquire and assemble information needed to complete drawing, visiting job sites to gather measurements and current state of construction.
  • Utilize knowledge of various drafting packages and software to complete drawings.
  • Procure and organize specifications for estimators.
  • Actively participate in programs and initiatives designed to enhance the overall good of the company, including collaboration with other APi organizations as directed.
  • Work as a member of a design team, cooperating with the team leader and with Project Management in an effective manner to perform engineering work of a high quality.
  • Be aware of budget and schedule constraints on all work executed. Make every effort to complete assignment on time and on schedule.
  • Develop and maintain good working relationships with customers.
  • Ability to support Jamar and APi Group goals.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This role will be based out of our Duluth MN office. The pay range is $24.80 to $37.10 depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is benefit eligible. Some benefits include
