Air Products and Chemicals, Inc. a world-leading manufacturer of industrial gases, has an immediate opportunity for an experienced Operations Technician for its Convent, Louisiana SMR facility.

The Convent, LA, SMR H2 facility, currently consists of 1 SMR (steam methane reformer) and associated equipment to produce high purity hydrogen and power. The hydrogen is compressed and delivered to our gulf coast hydrogen pipeline to supply customers from New Orleans to Galveston Bay. Our businesses operate and require support on a 24/7 basis and are supported by plant operators, technical staff and support staff to produce and deliver product to our customers.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • This is a safety sensitive position.
  • Monitor and adjust plant process conditions using various valves and operating equipment
  • Maintain log book of operation activities.
  • Solving plant process upsets using various indicators and DCS trends.
  • Handle daily routines to include water treatment, equipment inspection, and log sheet readings.
  • Perform preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain online training program requirements.
  • Issue safety work permits and perform lock out / tag out of various process equipment.
  • Inspect all work areas on a continuous basis for any mechanical problems, safety hazards and unusual operation conditions. Keep work and supply areas in a safe, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Ensure that all plant safety procedures are followed.
  • Attend and contribute to our safety initiatives and monthly safety meetings.
  • Perform troubleshooting on equipment and make repairs if possible.
  • Assist in reviewing and updating operating procedures as required.

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Basic computer proficiency and software knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Previous work history and/or military experience
  • Electrical, instrument or mechanical maintenance experience a plus
  • Ability to read/understand piping and instrumentation drawings a plus
  • Experience with personal computers and/or DCS systems
  • Desire and ability to work in a team environment

Physical Requirements:

  • Willing to work a 12-hour rotating shift schedule.
  • Climb ladders and steps and lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Meet call-in requirements as needed.
  • Elevated work required.
  • Work in all weather conditions.
