Overview

Hudson Valley Credit Union is currently recruiting for the position of Supervisor Data Engineering. Primary Functions: Lead and empower a team to build, maintain, and optimize the organization's data infrastructure and pipelines, ensuring data is reliable, accessible, and scalable to support business objectives and data-driven decision-making.


Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and support career development for team members.
  • Onboard new data engineering talent.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and optimization of robust, scalable, and efficient data pipelines (ETL/ELT).
  • Define and implement best practices for data ingestion, processing, storage, and transformation.
  • Ensure data solutions are designed for reliability, scalability, and performance.
  • Lead the development and maintenance of our data warehouse and data lake solutions.
  • Establish and enforce data quality standards, data validation processes, and monitoring systems.
  • Implement and champion data governance policies and best practices to ensure data accuracy, security, and compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Drive innovation in data engineering practices and contribute to the overall data strategy of the organization. Collaborate closely with data scientists, analysts, product managers, software engineers, and business stakeholders to understand their data requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Manage the full lifecycle of data engineering projects, including planning, resource allocation, execution, and delivery.
  • Effectively communicate project status, risks, and technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ensure the stability, reliability, and performance of production data systems.
  • Develop and maintain documentation for data architectures, pipelines, and processes.
  • Oversee troubleshooting and resolution of complex data-related issues.
  • Participate in budget planning and manage resources effectively for data engineering initiatives.
  • Adhere to all Credit Union policies, procedures, and regulatory agency requirements. Participate in all required and recommended training and development including, but not limited to, Bank Secrecy Act training (BSA) and demonstrate attained knowledge. Participate on Credit Union teams, projects and strategic initiatives when the opportunity arises. Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.
  • Embrace and apply HVCU's guiding principles to all activities and responsibilities. Support the Credit Union's initiatives by demonstrating teamwork and professionalism.
  • Responsible for regular and predictable attendance including punctuality.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field required.
  • Master's Degree or equivalent in Computer Science or related field preferred.
  • License/Certification Databricks Data Engineer Associate preferred.
  • License/Certification Mircrosoft Azure Data Engineer preferred.
  • Minimum 7 years hands-on experience in data engineering, with a proven track record of designing and implementing complex data solutions required.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in a leadership or management role, successfully leading and mentoring data engineering teams required.
  • Minimum 4 years Python experience required.
  • Minimum 2 years Databricks experience required.
