Job Summary:
Primary Function: The Regional Technical Lead sets CSA's technical benchmarks to meet accreditation requirements while keeping CSA competitive. Collaborating with PTL/TM, they provide timely technical support and leadership. They ensure consistent global delivery of CSA services through training, technical oversight, documentation, and communication. Their high level of knowledge and experience in HVAC standards allows them to make informed technical decisions, maintaining the integrity of CSA's certification programs. They also act as a backup to the PTL in technical support, staff training, and participation in Standard committees.

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

Operations:

  • Handles a wide spectrum of projects, including complex ones generating high revenue levels.
  • Performs certification, attestation, and TIS work, as well as mentoring, conducting witness testing, and audits of client testing facilities.
  • Provides necessary guidance to certifiers and lab technicians to ensure proper application of requirements.
  • Evaluates products at customer facilities, witnesses tests, and ensures all test equipment are within guidelines.
  • Works with the commercial unit to support current clients and develop new client opportunities.
  • Actively looks for efficiencies and demonstrates changes made to laboratory operations that have delivered productivity gains year on year.

Technical Management:

  • Maintains a Subject Matter Expert (SME) level of knowledge in HVAC area and uses it effectively to support the business. Direct experience with the application of CSA/UL/IEC 60335-2-40 for products using flammable refrigerants is required.
  • Provides technically sound, pragmatic, and concise responses to technical questions and requests for interpretation.
  • Works with the PTL/TM on the development and maintenance of technical requirements, including creating innovative solutions for multi-disciplinary technologies/products.
  • Reviews, assesses, and audits staff engaged in certification work to ensure technical consistency and competence.
  • Develops training materials and may deliver and/or arrange for training of technical staff.
  • Supports growth of CSA's business and influence in the industry.
  • Creates and maintains effective and efficient programs in collaboration with stakeholders in Operations and the CU.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering with 8 years or equivalent of related experience or Engineering Technologist/Technician diploma or Certified Engineering Technologist/Technician, Licensed Trades with 8 years or equivalent industry experience.
  • Direct experience with the application of CSA/UL/IEC 60335-2-40 for products using flammable refrigerants is required.
  • Strong knowledge of other HVAC Standards.
  • Knowledge of CSA processes.
  • Knowledge of laboratory instruments (including operating principles), understands calibration requirements as well as general laboratory procedures.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, written and oral.
  • Presentation skills are essential.
  • Strong organizational, time, and project management skills
