Reporting directly to Chief Operating Officer, the Administrator of Sterile Processing and High-Level Disinfection at UVA Medical Center provides strategic leadership and operational oversight to ensure the delivery of safe, high-quality sterile processing and high-level disinfection services. This role is responsible for managing the financial and human resources of the department, adhering to annual budgets. The Administrator will drive process improvement to ensure the timely delivery of re-processed items to operating and procedure rooms and ambulatory sites.
Overseeing a 24/7 operation, the Administrator leads a team of managers, supervisors, and team members across multiple shifts and multiple sites. This role ensures compliance with regulatory standards and fosters a culture of continuous improvement to support patient safety and quality care. This role also directs comprehensive training and continuing education programs for Health System team members, including clinic personnel involved in instrumentation, sterilization, and high-level disinfection processes.
In addition, the Administrator is responsible for aligning operations with organizational goals, cultivating a culture of excellence, innovation, and accountability, and ensuring effective resource utilization and operational efficiency - all while maintaining cooperative and collaborative working relationships with clinical stakeholders.
- Develop and execute operational initiatives aligned with finance, quality, safety, and infection prevention goals.
- Prepare and deliver reports to operational leadership on progress toward goals and objectives.
- Incorporate emerging trends and best practices into sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations.
- Oversee all sterile processing functions, including instrument sterilization, , case cart preparation, inventory management, and all high-level disinfection processes of scopes and probes.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory and accreditation standards related to sterile processing and high-level disinfection.
- Conduct regular rounds at all sterile processing and high-level disinfection locations to assess quality and gather team member feedback.
- Recruit, manage, and retain high-performing team members for sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations.
- Mentor and coach managers and supervisors, fostering a positive and professional work environment.
- Foster professional growth by collaborating with HR to enhance career advancement through structured ladder programs and other development initiatives.
- Identify and implement innovative, data-driven solutions to sterile processing and high-level disinfection operational challenges.
- Lead performance improvement initiatives to enhance service delivery, reduce costs, and improve patient safety in sterile processing and high-level disinfection operations.
- Develop and manage annual operating and capital budgets for sterile processing and high-level disinfection, achieving fiscal targets.
- Act as the primary liaison between sterile processing, high-level disinfection, and other departments to ensure seamless service delivery.
- Build and maintain relationships with clinical team members, surgeons and other physicians, and operational leaders to support sterile processing and high-level disinfection activities.
- Monitor quality measures and ensure adherence to infection prevention standards for sterile processing and high-level disinfection.
- Regularly review and update policies to comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards for sterile processing and high-level disinfection.
Position Compensation Range: $133,016.00 - $212,825.60 Annual
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Education: Bachelor's degree required. Master's degree preferred and must be obtained within 4 years of hire or transfer. Experience: 10 years of executive financial or operational experience in a large healthcare organization demonstrating leadership strategic thinking and responsibility for operations. Experience in an Academic Medical Center is preferred. Must have experience in managing/directing Sterile Processing Department.Must possess skills in communication (both verbal and written) mentoring/coaching and collaboration. Must possess knowledge of AAMI standards and The Joint Commission accreditation standards for hospital. Licensure: CRCST or CSBL/CHL certification required within 3 years of hire.
