AUTOMATION ENGINEER

Every now and then the perfect position comes along, and this is one of those times. Lear Corporation is the most vertically integrated supplier of complete automotive seat systems including Just-In-Time ("JIT") assembly and components. Our Columbia City plant is a trusted, world class, JIT seating partner and we are presenting a rare opportunity for an experienced Automated Engineer to join our team.

The ideal candidate will have a background working in a manufacturing environment with a strong knowledge of automation technologies (including PLCs, robotics, and process control systems) along with proven experience in industry converting manual processes to automated. Proficiency in engineering software and tools (e.g., CAD, simulation software) is necessary to succeed in this position.

The Automation Engineer must monitor and evaluate the performance and reliability of automated systems, making necessary adjustments to ensure optimal operation. This, of course, would require you to stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in automation and industrial engineering. Innovation while remaining compliant with technical, quality, and legal requirements is a necessity.

Your success is measured through the reliability of our automation systems (minimal downtime), increased production, and implemented CI projects. As a member of the Engineering team, the Automation Engineer will also be responsible for automation of production lines and integration of test equipment and to own and close corrective actions related to our automated systems.

Your Qualifications:



  • Minimum experience of 5 years in PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Omron, Bosch); PC programming C#, C++ languages
  • Programming required for the control of servo motors, pneumatic actuators, and devices such as HMI, sensors, vision sensors, cameras, etc. for automated workstations and / or test equipment for the automotive or electronics industry.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or related Science Engineering
  • Candidate should have participated in the design and integration of robots (ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, and Festo), automatic conveyors, indexing tables, servo motors, inspection equipment, vision systems, cameras, test equipment, light analysis, and electronic equipment. Advanced English (able to read technical specifications)
  • Must be able to engage in business conversation and read/write technical information.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapt to changing priorities is necessary.


Strong Knowledge Requirements:



  • PLC programming (Siemens, Allen Bradley, Siemens, Omron, Bosch)
  • Selection of PLC's, HMI, industrial PCs, sensors, vision systems, and safety devices for automatic equipment
  • ABB, Kuka, Fanuc, Festo robots programming
  • Reading of electrical diagrams under European and American system and its symbology
  • Industrial network design. An understanding of industrial safety standards and risk assessments.
  • Following systems for TS16949 and ISO14001 requirements
