Grid Technology Engineer

Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Computer Engineering from an accredited university (ABET). Must have satisfactory work record including good attendance. Operations Technology experience and proven leadership abilities preferred. Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and design theory required. Knowledge of engineering designs, principles and practices.

* Engineer 1 - recent graduate
* Engineer II - 2 or more years of engineering experience
* Staff Engineer - 4 or more years of engineering experience
* Senior Engineer - Typically possesses 8 or more years of engineering experience and an active member of a recognized industry committee or published in recognized technical journals or at minimum has two related career experiences or clearly demonstrated team leadership abilities on critical projects.
* Lead Engineer - Typically possesses 14 or more years of specialized engineering experience. Must be able to provide direction to internal and external support personnel with limited A/E firm support. Must be an active member of a recognized industry committee or published in recognized technical journals or at minimum has two related career experiences or clearly demonstrated team leadership abilities on critical projects.
* Principal - Typically possesses 20 or more years of engineering experience in specific areas of engineering. Must be a recognized Expert within Evergy and throughout the industry. This level is used on a limited basis and determined by both individual qualification and business critical need.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:
* Requires knowledge of basic engineering principles and advanced mathematics. Must be proficient in the ability to use database, spreadsheet, word processing, applicable engineering software applications, and technology management software.
* Provide technical assistance in support of automation team functions.
* Apply technical knowledge to help promote a safe work environment and to enhance customer satisfaction.
* Serve as a technical representative of the Company as assigned by keeping abreast of the latest developments and techniques pertaining to engineering, technology, and operating functions in the assigned field.
* Achieve successful completion of assigned projects within economic and time constraints by acting as a support engineer.
* Understanding of coding techniques using languages such as python and VBA.
* Familiarity with the applications power systems and its function on the electrical grid.
* Must understand basic computer operation.
* Ability to analyze and interpret common engineering systems.
* Knowledge and ability to apply problem solving approaches and engineering theory.
* Basic understanding of SCADA control systems.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:
PE License required for Principal.
Valid driver's license required.

Working Conditions: Most work is performed in an office with field work as necessary to perform the job. Travel to other locations within the company is required. Position requires work beyond normal working hours depending on workload, project deadlines, and service restoration efforts. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.

Conditions will vary between office and field environments. Time will be spent in an office as well as the field environment with hands-on work. Travel will be required to support field personnel. Additional overnight travel may be required. Work may require additional hours including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays to support a 24 hour per day/seven day per week environment. Must have a satisfactory work record including good attendance.
