Description

PURPOSE

In the plant, the purpose of a Packaging Manager is to effectively plan, coordinate, manage, and control all packaging operations, including packaging equipment, maintenance and cleaning. This role interfaces between other departments such as quality, maintenance, warehouse, processing, etc. Responsibilities include controlling production cost and assuring the highest level of product quality and safety. The Packaging Manager also has the responsibility of meeting and maintaining established safety, sanitation and environmental regulations.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES




  • Drives efforts to maximize efficiency and uses direct reports to continually improve the process in all areas of plant operations. In addition, as a member of the management team, he/she is actively responsible for seeking and supporting opportunities for innovation in the processes.




  • Provides direction to shift supervisors, leads and engineering support, ensuring quality products and adherence to productivity goals in terms of quality and other key performance indicators.




  • Responsible for the development of salaried direct reports, which include hiring, training and performance management, in order to foster an environment that promotes positive employee relations and safety accountability.




  • Improves overall line performance through supervision as well as operator training and development. Evaluates line performance to determine process improvements, troubleshoot and solve problems real time in order to prevent downtime and increase daily production.




  • Cooperates in a cross-functional manner, operating as a change agent between all company departments.




  • Completes all projects to support operations objectives and initiatives.




  • Fosters an environment that contributes to the development of new packaging technology, equipment, and products by utilizing collaborative partnerships with vendors, engineering, R&D, and technical services.




  • Ensures good manufacturing practices while promoting a safe working environment and enforcing sanitary production techniques. Requires an extensive knowledge of regulatory requirements and regulations as well as an understanding of sustainable development goals.




GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Packaging Manager directs, manages and coordinates the daily activities of approximately 60 people, who include packaging professionals and engineers, across a 3 shift, 6 day packaging operation at the Daisy Brand plant. A highly visible leadership position within a fast-paced environment, the primary focus is to efficiently fill and package products across 6 packaging lines, including rigid, film and foil packaging, with all products meeting the desired parameters set by Daisy Brand requirements and customer expectations.

The Packaging Manager is required to lead the packaging department per Daisy Brand requirements. The Packaging Manager has the authority to take immediate corrective actions when dealing with Food Safety and Food Quality issues and is required to report these issues to his/her immediate supervisor and/or Quality Manager for further action if required. The Plant Manager or an assigned qualified Packaging Representative will fill in for the Packaging Manager in their absence.

QUALIFICATIONS




  • B.S. /M.S. in Engineering, Science, or Management.




  • 5+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing operations, with a minimum 3 years in a significant production/packaging management role, involving consumer products for the food and beverage industry.




  • Experience in labor, capital equipment and production supplies along with knowledge of the dairy industry regulatory requirements.




  • Excellent management, planning, organizational, and follow-up skills are required.

There will be a need for 50-75% travel to other Daisy facilities for onboarding for the first 6-9 months.
