Overview
The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies (formerly Rutgers Center for Tobacco Studies) is undergoing dynamic and transformative growth. The Rutgers Institute for Nicotine and Tobacco Studies is one of the nation's leading tobacco focused research centers and its faculty have received over $50 million in extramural funding over the past two decades. The Institute's efforts are focused on their mission of reducing and ultimately eliminating, tobacco-related morbidity and mortality.

Five Centers or Programs currently operate at the Institute including a Tobacco Center for Regulatory Science, the Center of Excellence for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco, the Tobacco Dependence Program, a Tobacco Industry Marketing Program, and a Tobacco Control Law & Policy Resource Center.
Posting Summary
Rutgers Institute for Nicotine & Tobacco Studies, located in New Brunswick, NJ is seeking a User Support Specialist I. The User Support Specialist I will support the end-user community in the effective access and use of the University information resources and compliance with infrastructure and operating standards.

Duties include:

  • Provides general problem diagnosis and support for departmental LANS and workgroups.
  • Installs system, network and application software.
  • Installs workstation hardware.
  • Develops workshops and training programs and associated course materials.
  • Conducts workshops and training programs.
  • Develops project plans to assist clients in the design and deployment of distributed applications.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or Business Administration plus five (5) years of progressive experience in supporting end-user computing.
  • Relevant experience may be substituted for a college degree on a year-for-year basis.
  • General PC knowledge.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and trends.
  • Knowledge of modern connectivity methods and practices.
  • Ability to develop and manage project work plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and solve problems.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills suitable for a "service environment".
  • Knowledge and experience in system tuning and trend analysis.
  • Knowledge and experience in distributing computing environments.
  • Experience in program development using modern application development tools and methodologies.
  • Mechanical skills appropriate to desktop computer skills.
