Overview

KCI's Water Resources Practice is looking for a motivated environmental scientist to join our team in Sparks, Maryland. The selected candidate will work with other scientists, water resources engineers, and geospatial analysts to perform storm drain mapping and inspections, stormwater monitoring, analyses of water quality data, and technical report preparation, stormwater best management practice evaluations, drainage area delineations. The Scientist in Training will receive hands-on training working under the supervision of other experienced scientists. The work will include both field and office assignments.

Duties, Responsibilities & Other

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    Perform inspections and data collection of stormwater management facilities, storm drainage systems.
  • Perform water quality monitoring and field data collection activities such as stream monitoring, wet weather monitoring, stormwater outfall screening.
  • Perform inspections of industrial facilities for compliance with stormwater permits.
  • Perform basic GIS Analysis on collected stormwater infrastructure data.
  • Process field data, interpret lab results for inclusion in reports and deliverables
  • Prepare reports and perform office functions.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite including Word, Excel, PowerPoint preferred
  • Experience with Adobe, Bluebeam and photo editors preferred
  • Basic knowledge of ArcGIS software preferred
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds
  • Ability to work in the field in all weather conditions

Qualifications

Education and/or Skills Required:

  • 0-2 Years of experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Biology, Geology, or related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Good communication and technical writing skills.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to think critically.

Education and/or Work Experience Preferred:

  • Previous internships or work experience in this industry.
  • Familiarity with GIS software

Certificates, licenses, and/or Registrations Required:

  • Valid Driver's License
  • Ability to maintain required certifications.
  • Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position.
