Organizational Unit Overview
The College of Fine Arts and Communication is the cultural interface for the arts in eastern North Carolina. The Schools of Art and Design, Communication, Music, and Theatre, and Dance are the production arms of this acclaimed machine. In addition to entertaining the public with summer theatre, dance performances, musical theatre productions, exhibitions, recitals, opera theatre, film festivals, and guest artists, we educate. Our education programs in art, music, and theatre are among the largest and most comprehensive of their kind in the southeast. Our students leave East Carolina ready to excel.
Job Duties
The primary purpose of this position is to serve in a lead administrative support role in the College of Fine Arts and Communication. The position reports directly to the dean of the college. The main duties of this position include the management of personnel processes and to provide the executive administrative support to the dean. This position is the central resource for information on policies and regulations regarding faculty and staff hiring. Throughout the hiring process, this position is the interface between the college, the unit, and Academic Affairs and works independently to troubleshoot hiring issues as they arise. Additionally, this employee represents the dean with POSO, purchasing, and all other departments and offices at ECU. This position answers inquiries via telephone, email and personal contact from the schools, students, faculty, staff administrators, other universities, community and civic organizations and the general public. The Executive Assistant assists the dean in meeting daily obligations through the proper tracking of deadlines; providing briefings and gathering appropriate documentation for meetings; ensuring that other staff have been properly directed in accomplishing and distributing the dean's work. The Executive Assistant is responsible for keeping control of the dean's calendar, screening requests for appointments and scheduling appointments following the chain of command and relating to the dean.
Minimum Education/Experience
High school diploma or equivalency and three years of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Associate degree in secretarial science, business administration, or a related discipline and one year of progressively responsible administrative/office management experience; or Bachelor's degree, preferably in business administration or a related discipline; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
