Job Description:

The Senior Accountant is responsible for performing critical and complex accounting functions to ensure accuracy of general ledger and client transactions while adhering to firm financial policies. The initial training period requires 5 days in office, Monday through Friday.

Location: Rochester, NY

  • Full-charge bookkeeping for the firm's joint venture or subsidiaries including payroll, accounts payable and financial statement preparation.
  • Responsible for firm external audits, capital spend tracking and analysis.
  • Balance sheet account reconciliations.
  • Accounts payable support for complex accounts payable functions.
  • Support the firm's General Counsel for all invoices and analysis related to professional liability claims.
  • Support the firm's legal project management team as needed.
  • Manage the general ledger feed process/journal entry posting for firm payroll.
  • Perform monthly internal audits, monthly expense variance analysis and complete reporting and analysis.
  • Prepare Journal entries.
  • Point-person for U.S. Patent/Trademark and Copyright accounting.
  • Assist offices and provide backup for trust accounting.
  • Serve as Chrome River administrator and monitor firm Chrome River Help e-mail in box.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
  • 5 - 7 years of accounting experience, preferably within a law firm or professional services environment.
  • Bachelor's degree is required. Work experience in lieu of a degree will be considered.
  • Strong knowledge of general accounting rules and principles
  • Proficient in Windows-based software applications (i.e. Access and Excel)
  • Proficiency with Quickbooks
  • Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and competing demands
  • Client driven team player with strong customer service skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, interacting with personnel at all levels

In accordance with applicable Federal and State laws, the anticipated annual salary range for this position, depending on location, is as follows: Rochester, NY: $70,500 - $104,500

In addition to a standard benefits package, this role may be eligible for additional contingent compensation based on an array of factors, including but not limited to: work performance, geographic location, work experience, education, and qualifications. Because such contingent compensation is not yet calculable or may be zero ($0) in some circumstances, the above-listed salary range(s) are Nixon Peabody's good faith estimate of the annual salary(ies) it reasonably expects to pay for the position at the time of this posting.
