Overview

Con Edison, a multibillion-dollar energy utility, is leading the clean energy transition in New York City and Westchester County. We invest hundreds of millions of dollars annually to integrate distributed resources into our electric and gas systems, support electric vehicle charging infrastructure, and scale adoption of energy efficiency and clean heating technologies across our customers.The Strategy Manager (Demand Response) oversees all aspects of the Company's commercial Demand Response programs, including design, operational, administrative, budgetary, marketing, performance analysis, reporting, process improvement, customer and stakeholder engagement, and manages the team responsible for executing these programs. This is a great role to demonstrate your ability to drive results, demonstrate application of cross-disciplinary skills to the clean energy space and gain firsthand experience with the clean energy transition.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities
  • The Demand Response team manages dispatchable distributed energy resources that are located at the customer facilities (including curtailment and distributed generation). These resources provide peak shaving and reliability benefits to Con Edison's electric distribution systems. The team manages several demand response programs including: Commercial System Relief Program, Distribution Load Relief Program, Dynamic Load Management, and Bring Your Own Thermostat.
  • Clean Energy Strategy Manager will support the design and operations of the Con Edison demand response programs. Responsibilities may include regulatory support, program dispatch, performance analysis, reporting, marketing, stakeholder engagement, coordination with NYISO, and general program administration and operations. Must be comfortable with both technical and policy analysis.
  • Commit to these ideals of developing a proactive, customer-centric culture to foster trust and confidence among customers and improve value for all our stakeholders.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the Commercial Demand Response programs, including making real-time decisions in uncertain situations and managing staff.
  • Oversee all operational aspects of demand response including the dispatch of demand response events and monitoring and verification of performance, on-call duty and coordination with system operations and directing a group of on-call employees.
  • Direct all administrative aspects of demand response including program design, customer enrollments, and settlements.
  • Direct all regulatory aspects of the demand response programs including petitions and reporting.
  • Manage budget and related processes for demand response programs.
  • Monitor, analyze and report on program performance and status to internal and external stakeholders, including senior management.
  • Develop relationships with the New York Public Service Commission, New York Independent System Operator, and other stakeholders to promote the interests of Con Edison. Maintain awareness of State, Federal, and Independent System Operator rules and programs that impact Con Edison's demand response programs. Oversee the promotion of the growth of the programs through marketing, training, and communications with customers.
  • Use software to administer and operate the programs. Responsible for data management and quality control, and data requests.
  • Ensure exceptional service for customers and stakeholders.
  • Work with other internal stakeholders to maximize the value of Demand Response for the Company's benefit.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.

Qualifications

Required Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree Engineering, Economics, Information Technology, Business, Environmental Studies, or related field and 5 years Relevant work experience or
  • Master's Degree Engineering, Science, Economics, Information Technology, Business, Environmental Studies, or related field and 3 years Relevant work experience

  • Proven leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to drive results by collaborating with stakeholders to build consensus. Required
  • Strong communications, presentation, writing skills and analytical skills. Required
  • Demonstrated organizational skills, and the ability to see the big picture and attention to detail. Required

  • Flexibility to deal with ambiguity and comfortable working in a dynamic environment. Required
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel). Required
  • Work experience in demand response, energy efficiency, or other competitive, market driven utility programs Preferred
  • Experience with partners and vendors Preferred
  • Regulatory petitions and reporting experience Preferred
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to drive multiple projects to successful completion
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint, etc.

Additional Physical Demands
  • The selected candidate will be assigned a System Emergency Assignment (i.e., an emergency response role) and will be expected to work non-business hours during emergencies, which may include nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be able and willing to travel within Company service territory, as needed.
