Associate Director, Career Development & Industry Engagement

Position available through UCSD Temporary Employment Services (TES). Employment through TES is an excellent way to gain valuable UCSD experience and get your foot in the door for career positions. DESCRIPTION

Under the leadership of the Career Center Director and Senior Associate Directors, the Associate Director of Career Development & Industry Engagement provides a range of services and programs to meet the career development and education needs of students and alumni. Utilizing various theoretical frameworks integrated with the understanding of career and life design, experiential learning, and mentoring in the academic and co-curricular learning experience for all students, advises students on a full range of career and professional development opportunities, including individual or group advising / coaching, career planning, setting career goals, decision-making, and improving career readiness competencies. Provides a holistic approach to student career coaching, creates and facilitates workshops and presentations as necessary; or develops and sustains relationships with current or potential employers and other organizations to build lasting relationships while augmenting recruiting efforts and aligning career opportunities with students. Performs independently, but may receive guidance in developing new career advising / coaching services and programs. The Associate Director will work closely with Senior Associate Directors to develop scalable programs and interventions that engage students in career and life design, experiential learning, alumni and employer connections, and transferable skill /core competency development.

  • Anticipated duration: 6 months
  • Compensation: $63,800-$75,750/year, including paid holidays and vacation/sick leave. Full-medical insurance also available.
  • Location: Hybrid opportunity. On-site work will be at UC San Diego's main campus in La Jolla.
  • Work schedule: Mon - Fri, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. Some evenings and weekend hours may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Strong knowledge of career development theories, adult development theory, counseling process, career coaching techniques, career decision making, learning styles, and job search techniques.

  • Knowledge of UC programs, career services, employer, alumni, and faculty needs and expectations, recruiting and staffing methods, and employment trends.

  • Ability to work with people from diverse cultures. Demonstrated competency and commitment to equity, diversity and inclusion

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills to establish goals and prioritize workload of self and others; ability to meet strict deadlines; ability to work efficiently and effectively on multiple projects with competing deadlines; flexibility in dealing with people and competing demands; ability to manage details of complex projects and events and to independently follow through to successful completion.

  • Knowledge of academic, vocational, career programs and opportunities with the ability to apply theories and principles of higher education in a college structure.

  • This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.

  • Work some evenings and weekend hours. Primarily work on-site with the flexibility to engage in remote work as needed, ensuring a balanced and adaptable approach to responsibilities.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $63,800 - $111,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $30.56 - $53.45

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
