Position Overview

Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Director of Broadcasting, the Assistant Operations Director Assists the Operations FM Director with the on-air broadcast operations of KENW-FM.


Requirements

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in providing exceptional customer service in all interactions with students, staff, and the public.
  • Assist in ensuring a high level of quality control for the on-air broadcast sound of FM programming.
  • Assist in creating daily program logs for the FM automation system.
  • Help maintain FM CD and audio archive libraries.
  • Ensure that all recordings and out-of-house programs are received and prepared properly for broadcast.
  • Maintain and ensure accuracy of broadcast, record, and EAS logs.
  • Ensure that weekly EAS tests are conducted as required by the FCC.
  • Help generate and maintain all checklists to ensure that daily and weekly tasks are accomplished.
  • Help prepare program promos for daily broadcast.
  • Assist in FM studio production as needed.
  • Keep abreast of new technology and best practices in the field of broadcasting and communication theory, practices, and technology.
  • Be knowledgeable about current FCC Rules and Regulations concerning FM broadcast operations.
  • Help maintain and record daily readings and weather conditions for the National Weather Service.
  • Assist KENW-TV with audio production as a station trade-out for FM engineering services provided by KENW-TV as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Job Requirements:
  • Associate's degree in broadcasting or a related field OR a combination of education and experience in Broadcasting.
  • At least one year of experience in radio operations or a closely related field is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Must be computer literate, including non-linear audio editing skills.
  • Basic knowledge of audio equipment for studio and field production.
  • Knowledge of University policies and procedures and structures.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
  • Ability to maintain friendly customer service and professional demeanor with all constituencies.
  • Project coordination and organizational skills and the ability to work as a team player.
  • Ability to present a professional, pleasant, and cooperative attitude in coordinating communication between staff and the general public.

Working Conditions

Physical Demand and Working Conditions:

  • Work consists of exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or a consistent amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
  • Work is generally performed during standard business hours, with some evening and weekend hours as needed.
  • This is a half time position.
