Description
Job Summary:

The District Grounds/Maintenance Position is responsible for grounds maintenance. Grounds Maintenance is responsible for identifying needs pertaining to the grounds and making recommendations to the Buildings and Grounds Supervisor. The position is responsible for the proper marking of all athletic and physical education fields, mowing, trimming, fertilizing, weed control, snow removal, and maintenance of shrubs and trees.


Other duties include maintenance of blacktop, sidewalks, fencing, parking lots, signs/posts, and other District playgrounds. This position is responsible for the maintenance of all the athletic and storage buildings, which are separate from the primary facilities. This position will maintain all grounds equipment to ensure optimum performance. Reports To:
Buildings and Grounds Supervisor

Essential Job Functions:
1. Attend training, classes, and conferences as required to meet safety and operational compliances.
2. Comply with all District safety requirements.
3. Must be highly motivated and possess the initiative to seek, perform, recommend, and enhance the department through work and action.
4. Ability to work independently and have flexibility of work hours based on District needs.
5. Previous experience in the area of landscaping and grounds maintenance.
6. Thorough knowledge of the operation, maintenance and repair of grounds equipment, including, but not limited to; tractors, grounds mowers, snow blowers, sprayers, spreaders, irrigation equipment, trimmers, chain saws, seeders, maintenance vehicles, small engines, etc.
7. Set-up and take down of equipment for athletic and school events district wide.
8. General knowledge of plumbing, heating, air conditioning, security systems, and electrical systems.
9. Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, job related equipment properly and safely.
10. Must have good communication skills, oral and written, and have the ability to relate well with staff, students and the public.
11. Maintain tools and equipment to safe working order.
12. Report all unsafe/unhealthy conditions observed in the Stoughton School District to his/her supervisor.
13. Perform all other maintenance related tasks assigned by his/her supervisor.
14. Comply with the absence policy of the District.

Physical Requirements:




  1. Standing and walking for extended periods of time.



  2. Bending at the waist, pushing and pulling maintenance supplies and equipment, lifting and moving heavy objects.



  3. Reaching overhead, above the shoulders, and horizontally.



  4. Climbing ladders, stairs, scaffolding, and ramps.



  5. Requires dexterity of hands and fingers to operate hand and power tools.





Constant (66-100%) bending, pushing, pulling, lifting, walking, squatting, reaching, and stair climbing in order to perform essential job functions.

Lifting: 0-10 pounds constantly (66-100%)

11-50 pounds frequently (34-65%)

Over 50 pounds occasionally (1-33%)

Shall be able to lift 50 pounds in a repetitive situation and work from a stepladder at a height of 10 ft., as well as from aerial lifts or scaffolding.



Marginal Job Functions:
1. Welding, carpentry, masonry, cement work, and emergency response.
2. Substitute for a custodian as needed.
3. Must comply with the rotating on call schedule.
4. All other duties assigned which relate to the functions of the District's needs.
5. Assist bus garage staff when needed.
REQUIRED: Possess or ability to obtain a commercial pesticide applicator license.
Qualifications
Job Qualifications:


  1. High school diploma or equivalent.



  2. At least one year of experience in grounds upkeep and athletic field preparation preferred.



  3. Commercial pesticide applicator license within one year of hire date.



  4. Must have excellent communication skills and be able to follow written/verbal directions in order to work effectively with outside suppliers, community, parents, students, and staff. Must be able to document and report activities.



  5. Excellent manual and mechanical ability.



  6. Ability to work independently in a variety of environmental situations that include but are not limited to inside of buildings, outside of buildings, confined spaces, and elevated work platforms.



  7. Must be able to operate and maintain grounds equipment such as mowers, tractors, snow blowers, etc.



  8. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals.



  9. Ability to operate and maintain hand tools, power tools, and job-related equipment safely.



  10. Must maintain and demonstrate behavior that is appropriate to work in a school environment at all times. This will include, but not limited to: appropriate use of language, respect of property, concerns for others, and a willingness to assist when needed.



  11. Possess and maintain a valid driver's license.


  12. Attend all required safety trainings.
