Job Summary:



A full-time Senior Research Services Professional position is available in the Department of Pathology at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. We are seeking a highly motivated, organized, and detail-oriented individual to work in a research laboratory environment focused on breast cancer studies involving both human and mouse tumor models. This position involves diverse responsibilities shared with other lab members, including ordering supplies, hazardous waste management, training new employees, managing mouse models of breast cancer, performing surgical manipulations on rodents, euthanasia, and tissue collection. The candidate must be compassionate and comfortable working with research animals. Additionally, they will support the principal investigator, postdoctoral fellows, and graduate students in executing ongoing research projects.



  • 70%: Conducting mammalian cell culture, RNA/DNA isolation, qRT-PCR, shRNA techniques, protein isolation and immunoprecipitation-western blotting, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, tissue preparation (fresh frozen and FFPE), sectioning, and other necessary histological, molecular, and cellular biology techniques.
  • 10%: Managing lab operations, including supply ordering, maintaining chemical inventory and safety documents, shipping/receiving biological specimens, and training new team members.
  • 10%: Maintaining a clean and organized lab environment by washing and autoclaving dishes and preparing common lab solutions.
  • 10%: Assisting with mouse-related procedures such as surgery, tail snip genotyping, and necropsy.


Key Responsibilities / Duties:



  • Technical and Research Tasks (70%):

    • Perform mammalian cell culture, RNA/DNA isolation, qRT-PCR, protein isolation, immunoprecipitation-western blotting, immunohistochemistry, in situ hybridization, tissue preparation (fresh frozen and FFPE), and other molecular and cellular biology techniques.
    • Assist with mouse model procedures, including surgery, tail snip genotyping, and necropsy.


  • Lab Operations and Maintenance (20%):

    • Order supplies, maintain chemical inventory, update lab safety documents, and manage shipping/receiving of biological specimens.
    • Maintain a clean and orderly lab environment, including washing and autoclaving dishes and preparing common lab solutions.


  • Training and Oversight (10%):

    • Mentor and train new lab members, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, in laboratory techniques and safety protocols.
    • Participate in weekly lab meetings with the principal investigator or supervisor and maintain a detailed, updated lab notebook.


  • Professional Skills:

    • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
    • Exhibit proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, and PowerPoint).
    • Communicate effectively in written and oral formats and collaborate well in group research settings.
    • Be punctual and consistently meet assigned deadlines.


  • Critical Skills and Tasks:

    • Analyze data and experimental outcomes.
    • Communicate results and progress effectively.
    • Compare experimental conditions and results to identify trends.
    • Compile detailed reports and summaries of research findings.
    • Coordinate efforts within the team to ensure smooth operation of lab activities.
    • Accurately copy and document procedures and findings.
    • Instruct and mentor lab members in technical methods and best practices.


  • Exhibit strong interpersonal skills to foster a positive and productive lab environment.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in City, State.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • Education: Bachelor of Science or related field
  • Experience: Two (2) years of experience


Preferred Qualifications:



  • One (1) year or more of experience in molecular biology in a research setting or clinical or animal histology laboratory and experience in histology and immunohistochemistry.
  • Hands-on experience with histology and immunohistochemistry techniques, molecular biology skills, tissue culture handling.
  • Masters or higher graduate training is needed.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Excellent interpersonal skills, self-motivated, and be able to work independently or as a team-worker.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excell, Word, and Power Point) is required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and be able to work well with other individuals, as well as within group research settings.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as HIRING RANGE $63,000

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
