Responsibilities

Summary:
This position involves scheduling, overseeing and managing Officers tasked with the transportation and safeguarding of detainees at various locations as directed by the United States Marshals Service (USMS). Additionally, it is responsible for ensuring that all vehicles and equipment utilized under the USMS BPA adhere to standard operating policies and procedures, with regular maintenance conducted in compliance with federal, state, and organizational laws, rules, and regulations. Further, it is responsible for routine monitoring of Officers on transportation missions and hospital guard assignments.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts interviews and provides recommendations for hiring Senior Transportation Officers and Transportation Officers. Ensures all necessary forms are accurate and comprehensive. Trains Officers on policies and procedures related to the transportation of detainees. Provides overall supervision of Officers assigned to their respective USMS Region, ensuring proper scheduling and offering mentorship as needed.
  • Maintains a roster and assigns Officers to missions upon request of the USMS.
  • Acts as a liaison between GTI and the districts within their designated region.
  • Recommends performance improvement plans when necessary and implements effective disciplinary measures for Officers who fail to adhere to strict policies and procedures regarding the transportation and guarding of detainees. If performance does not improve, recommends additional disciplinary actions, including termination. Continuously enhances Officers' knowledge and skills by facilitating training sessions and providing relevant materials. Conducts refresher courses in defensive driving and hospital guard techniques to ensure Officers remain informed about current policies and procedures.
  • Ensures that Officers scheduled hours comply with policy and regulatory constraints. Monitors Officer schedules weekly, making necessary adjustments to align with all federal Department of Transportation (DOT) rules and regulations, as well as organizational policies and procedures. Provides retraining and counseling as needed.
  • Oversees and schedules maintenance services and repairs for all assigned vehicles. Ensure that any defects identified by Officers or inspectors are addressed promptly. Maintains effective recordkeeping and scheduling for vehicle service and inspection dates, managing maintenance costs without compromising safety.
  • Reports and investigates all accidents involving assigned Officers. Identifies problem areas, provides retraining, counseling, and disciplinary action when necessary. Ensures that all accidents are reviewed by the safety committee to determine their causes and whether they were preventable. Conducts safety meetings on relevant topics and engages regularly with Officers about safety interests and procedures to reinforce commitment to safety. Assists and represents the company in legal matters involving assigned drivers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required. Possession of applicable state requisites for employment.
  • Three (3) years of continuous law enforcement related experience which includes at least two (2) years as a supervisor.
  • Must be at least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Must be a United States citizen.
  • Demonstrated experience to function in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must have completed an approved training program resulting in a certification of satisfactory completion in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • Certification in Corrections, Law Enforcement, or Military.
  • A current U.S. driver's license with no preventable accidents, suspensions for driving convictions, Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) or Driving Under the Influence (DUI) or more than two (2) moving violations on any type of vehicle for the past three (3) years.
  • Passing a company and Department of Transportation (DOT) drug and alcohol test.
  • Ability to pass a Company and Federal Client background investigation.
  • May be required to obtain a USDOT medical examiner certificate, "medical card" after hire.
  • Extensive knowledge of State/Contracting Agency laws relating to detainee transportation.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with a variety of personalities.
  • Ability to interpret complex written/oral communication, documents, and instructions.
  • Ability to make and implement decisions without assistance.
  • Ability to give instructions in a manner that encourages teamwork and cooperative spirit.
  • Ability to maintain high tolerance to mental stress.
  • Ability to understand and carry out moderately complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to work in varying climatic conditions.
  • Proven proficiency in the operation of a personal computer and software related to report writing, employee scheduling, and information submission to GEONET.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
  • Must be willing to travel regularly within their respective regions.
  • When called upon, must serve as the Assistant Director Transportation.
