Primary Purpose and Essential Functions
The School of Health Sciences at the University of the Pacific invites applicants for a part-time, non-tenure position as an associate clinical professor in the Master of Science Clinical Nutrition Program. Part-time faculty will develop and/or teach online, hybrid, or in-person courses.
The accelerated sixteen (16) month program offers a specialization in clinical nutrition. The curriculum is delivered over four (4) consecutive trimesters. The curriculum is designed to meet the competency-based educational model of the future graduate ACEND standards. Supervised clinical practice experiential learning is woven throughout didactic coursework. Teaching is the primary focus at the University. We aspire to promote student learning within a humanistic environment that facilitates student success to be competent self-directed learners. The role of the part-time instructional faculty within the MSCN Program at University of the Pacific is to provide instruction and develop courses as assigned in areas of knowledge and expertise.
The successful faculty candidate will be part of a highly motivated, cohesive faculty of experienced educators working as an interdisciplinary team to deliver innovative curriculum designed to meet the future graduate future model ACEND Accreditation Standards.
The successful candidate will work in collaboration with other MSCN faculty members within the program to provide expertise and contribute to a collaborative working environment. This position will report directly to the MSCN Program Director.

Job Description and Responsibilities Include:

  • Teach hybrid, online, or in-person courses in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities.


  • Create or co-create online, hybrid, or in-person course content and materials in areas of expertise using innovative teaching modalities, including but not limited to:

    • Course syllabus.
    • Reading assignments.
    • Lectures.
    • Outlines and scripts for videos, voice-over presentations, podcasts, and similar.
    • Quizzes and exams.
    • Discussion boards.
    • Assignments.
    • Assessments.
    • Student guidance
    • Instructions.
    • Overviews.
    • Other teaching materials.



  • Create a student-centered learning environment.
  • Prepare lecture capture PowerPoints, videos, course content, and other media rich technologies for effective teaching.
  • Engage regularly with students in online forums, discussion boards, and virtual meetings.
  • Grade learning activities and provide timely constructive feedback.
  • Mentor student-directed scholarly work.
  • Provide academic advising.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Compensation will be based on experience and the specific responsibilities of the course.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possess a Master's degree in nutrition or nutrition-related field with significant clinical nutrition experience.
  • Teaching experience at the college/ university level.
  • Intermediate to advanced computer skills, specifically MS Office Suite Programs(i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and MS Outlook.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Credentialed as a registered dietitian nutritionist by the Commission on Dietetic Registration.
  • Academic experience Clinical Nutrition Education, to include curriculum development.
  • Knowledge of competency based education.
  • Strong CN teaching experience.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional higher education teaching experience.
  • Desire to teach and learn from students in all phases of the curriculum, using a humanistic educational model.
  • Superior written, oral and interpersonal communications skills needed to work with diverse student, faculty, preceptor and administrative populations.
  • Have a desire to create and sustain a culture of student support and success
  • Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures.
  • Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice, equity, and inclusion in a university setting
  • Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.

Requires extended periods of sitting and repetitive hand/wrist motion while using a computer keyboard and phone. Occasional standing, walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and reaching. Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
Work Environment/Work Week/Travel:
Work schedule will be assigned by the department dependent on the course hired for. Work is performed during standard hours; Additional hours may be required to meet business needs or deadlines.

Hiring Range $24,375 (We consider factors such as, but not limited to, scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's qualifications, internal equity, as well as market and organizational considerations when extending an offer.)
