Summary of Position Functions

The Project Manager I - Energy Consulting will manage multiple commissioning, energy efficiency, and retro-commissioning projects simultaneously. Oversee all aspects of projects including technical work, scheduling, budget management and client relationship management. Be responsible for setting deadlines, assigning responsibilities, monitoring the progress of each project, and preparing internal and external reports for management regarding project status. Adhere to the highest levels of customer service through every step of the process, from initial contact and project kickoff, through evaluation, investigation, installation and testing, and through project closeout.

Essential Position Functions

  • Manages commissioning, energy consulting, and/or engineering projects.
  • Oversees all aspects of a project including scope, schedule, budget, and quality.
  • Sets deadlines, assigns responsibilities, and monitors and summarizes progress of projects.
  • Coordinates and leads project meetings with the client.
  • Prepares reports for upper management regarding the status of projects.
  • Manages complex and diverse teams to complete the contracted work.
  • Conducts capacity planning.
  • Compiles related reports and data sheets as required.
  • Conducts or assists with the development of project deliverables, including organizing and writing reports, drafting pre-functional and functional performance tests, writing Cx and M&V plans and other Cx documentation, and developing SOOs.
  • Provides QC of the final deliverables that will be sent to the customer to ensure quality and contractual compliance.
  • Conducts site assessments to review systems and collect data from facilities.
  • Contributes to the ongoing development and enhancement of the project management processes.
  • Develops new analytical tools and delivers advanced technical training.
  • Ensures timely delivery of reports and other deliverables.
  • Manages analysis conducted by engineers.
  • Manages and participates in pre-functional and functional performance tests.
  • Presents results to customers and acts as the main conduit for customer feedback and suggestions.
  • Leads project teams consisting of internal staff and sub-consultants.
  • Generates, formats, distributes, and submits invoices.
  • Manages contracts including contract document routing, tracks contract progress and expiration, and gathers documentation required for contract.
  • Compiles documents and reports requirements for public clients including LBE participation tracking.
  • Works with the financial team on cash collection and accounts receivable.
  • Manages sub-contractor invoicing.
  • Fields requests and questions from accounting and works with project managers to resolve issues.
  • Opens and closes projects.
  • Assists with business development and proposals.

Education and Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering from a four-year college or university (Mechanical Engineering, preferred); or 3 + years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master's degree in engineering, preferred.
  • Understanding of HVAC systems, energy efficiency concepts, and energy modeling techniques required.
  • Passion for energy efficiency and clean energy technology required.
  • 1-3 years of practical experience in building commissioning, retro-commissioning, HVAC, energy, and/or controls required.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of Veregy's services and processes is required which can be obtained through intellect, technical inclination, and dedication to gain such knowledge.
  • Knowledge (Intermediate to advanced) of various operating systems, software products (e.g. MS Office, etc.), is required.
  • Knowledge and understanding of building systems, energy efficiency, HVAC, and controls.
  • Ability to effectively respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers and staff.
  • Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time / workload.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, business, professional, and technical documents.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to write presentations, articles, routine reports, proposals, and correspondence.
  • Ability to oversee financial matters.
  • Ability to lead customer meetings.
  • Ability to present technical details and communicate project results.
  • Ability to thrive in a strong team environment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • EIT license, preferred.
  • PE license or working toward PE licensure preferred.
  • Commissioning certification (BCxP, CCP, or equivalent), preferred.
  • Professional project management certification or other related qualification, preferred.

Travel Required

  • Must be able to travel at least 25% of the time, mostly in California, but occasionally across the United States.
