GENERAL PURPOSE:

The Project Coordinator coordinates projects and contractors providing design and construction related services for projects managed by Public Works. This work is performed under general supervision by the Construction Manager, the Assistant Director of Public Works, and the Director of Public Works. The incumbent normally receives little instruction on routine work and general instruction on new projects and assignments; work is reviewed periodically through observation, adherence to established policies and procedures, and results achieved with primary feedback given with final results.


Examples of Duties

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Plans, organizes, directs, and deploys staff, resources, and operational assets of the Information Oversee and coordinate with in-house construction crews and private contractors hired onto projects within City rights-of way and on City property.

Review and prepare schedules for contractors to follow and meet project deadlines.

Review project budgets and contactor bids to ensure project goals can be accomplished.

Schedule regular meetings for project updates.

Prepare construction notices to the general public relating to construction projects.

Investigate and respond to public complaints regarding construction projects.

Record and maintain a set of as built plans in the field including daily construction logs for each project task.

Process monthly invoices for payment based on inspections of project tasks completed.

Maintain records of all project meetings including attendance.

Create, update, and maintain project files including, but not limited to, project costs, plans, maintenance work, etc.

Required to be available for after hour emergencies and services.

Perform other work as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Workingknowledge of occupational hazards, safety rules, and practices and the ability to transmit such knowledge to subordinates.

Skill in the operation of modern office equipment, computers, and software, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Project, PowerPoint, etc.).

Ability to read and follow construction plans and blue prints for the purpose of construction, calculations, and estimations.

Ability to analyze data and make recommendations; ability to make calculations.

Ability to schedule and inspect work and deal tactfully and courteously with the general public.

Ability to remain on call, 24 hours a day, seven days a week for after-hours repairs, emergencies, and other related concerns.

Ability to make critical and difficult decisions with some direction that conform to the policies and procedures of the City and the Department.

Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with employees, supervisors, city officials, and the general public.

Ability to communicate information tactfully and impartially, both in person and in writing with all staff, city officials, and the general public.

Ability to demonstrate proficiency in the City of Winter Park Core Competencies.

Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and keep accurate records.

This position is performed with working knowledge - the incumbent has ability to recall and apply important and commonly-used information from relevant source documents or information in a particular subject field.

Typical Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High School Diploma or equivalent, supplemented by a minimum of five years of construction/project management experience with strong working knowledge of site and building construction and completing projects on time. At least three years of supervisory experience is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education, training and experience, which provide the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities and other competencies required for the position may be considered.

CERTIFICATIONS, TRAINING, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

Certifications must be obtained within 6 months after start of employment.

Certified - FDEP Approved Erosion and Sedimentation Control.

Certified - FDOT Approved Advanced Temporary Traffic Control.

A State of Florida Commercial Driver's License (CDL), Class B or higher is preferred.

Note: All certifications must be current at the time of application and must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.


Supplemental Information

Physical

This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 25 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force repetitively to lift, carry, push, pull, and reposition objects.

Ability to traverse about a variety of city facilities/jobsites, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Ability to ascend/descend stairs, scaffolds, and ladders.

Ability to remain stationary at jobsites for extended periods of time and repetitively operate related equipment for repairs/maintenance.

Ability to manipulate objects, demonstrate small, precise movements, and operate necessary equipment such as small hand and power tools repetitively or continuously.

Environmental

Tasks may require infrequent exposure to adverse environmental conditions including inclement weather, sun, extreme temperatures, odors, dirt and dust, loud noises, and hazardous chemicals, etc.

Sensory

Tasks require the manipulation of objects and demonstration of small, precise movements, the ability to detect and distinguish various features of one's surroundings, and the ability to effectively communicate and exchange information with others.
