Womble Bond Dickinson (US) LLP seeks a highly qualified Staff Attorney to join its Mass Torts Practice Group, with a focus on consumer protection litigation defense on behalf of manufacturers.

The position involves working in an active and dynamic practice that touches all aspects of litigation including discovery, depositions, motions practice, and trial, with cases pending in state courts, federal courts, and arbitration.

Responsibilities:

  • Assessing and synthesizing materials, records, and documentation, preparing detailed case evaluations, and developing defense and settlement recommendations for consumer protection litigation defense on behalf of manufacturers.
  • Preparing financial analyses and damages and/or settlement calculations based on manufacturer and consumer documentation and records, and applicable legal requirements.
  • Effective and reliable case management with minimal supervision. The successful candidate will be given autonomy to handle assigned cases while at the same time having access to the knowledge and experience of seasoned litigators.
  • Producing consistent and succinct reports and summaries for legal teams and clients, in alignment with client goals and defense strategy of portfolios.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of experience in warranty defense, insurance defense, product liability, or financial services litigation.
  • Ability to multitask and manage active litigation caseload, with multiple cases at varying stages of litigation.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, including capability to accurately calculate damages for legal risk and settlement options. Specific depth of experience in conducting financial calculations for damages and settlements is highly preferred.
  • Dynamic oral argument and communication skills, maintaining professional courtesy while negotiating with adversaries. Successful candidate will also interface with client, client representatives, and experts.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • The ideal candidate is both a team player and a self-starter, with the ability to work independently, seeking increasing levels of responsibility.
  • Ability to effectively work in a team, across different offices.
  • The litigators in the Mass Torts Practice Group frequently collaborate to analyze and strategize how to handle each case. It is essential that the successful candidate have the skill, knowledge, and ability to conduct research and apply laws, court decisions, and rules of evidence and procedure to defend clients and reach a successful resolution of each matter. The successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively and cooperatively with attorneys, paralegals, legal practice assistants and staff and have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in database management, web-based portal systems, and SharePoint preferred.

Candidates must be licensed and in good standing (California license strongly preferred; highly qualified candidates licensed in other states are considered). Candidates must be willing to periodically travel for court appearances and other proceedings as necessary. We are open to remote, part-time, or flexible hour arrangements.

The national average salary for this Staff Attorney role is $50,000 - $150,000. Starting salary will be determined based on location, qualifications, and experience.
