Sr. Analytical Chemist

Huntsman is seeking a Sr. Analytical Chemist supporting the Performance Products Division located in Conroe, Texas. This position will report to the Technical Manager.

Job Scope

Responsible for supporting critical analytical testing within the Conroe site quality laboratory. Oversee simple and complex chemical analysis, ensure compliance with regulatory and internal standards, and play a key role in laboratory support for maintaining the integrity of raw materials, intermediates, and finished products. This role requires advanced knowledge of chemistry, technical expertise, strong mathematical and statistical skills, some leadership acumen, and a deep commitment to quality and safety.

In summary, as the Sr. Analytical Chemist , you will:

With no supervision required and high decision-making:

  • Develop, validate, and transfer analytical methods in collaboration with R&D, technical, and process teams. Author and revise SOPs, technical protocols, validation reports, and other controlled documentation.
  • Maintain good knowledge of ISO9001:2015, 17025, and other related standards used in the QC lab. Support Internal and external audits as required
  • Maintain up-to-date industry knowledge of new testing technologies and techniques, and interface with vendors to purchase, set up, and install new equipment. Review equipment PM contracts and advise management on best practices.
  • Analyze routine and non-routine QC samples and post results in SAP. Occasionally, review SAP data for errors in results, testing issues, and false reporting. Analyze and review GC charts daily. Review ICP-MS & ICP-OES results before reporting in SAP. Report out-of-spec (OOS), out-of-trend (OOT), and non-conformance to the Team Lead.
  • Perform and lead simple to complex analytical testing (GC, ICP-OES, ICP-MS, XRF, AA, FT-IR, Automated & Manual Titrators, etc.) on raw materials, in-process samples, finished goods, NPI, and customer complaints.
  • Develop and implement training material and support training for new chemists, technicians, and re-training when necessary. Maintain and provide technical support to all lab technicians and chemists, ensuring the accuracy and precision of clean room analysis for low metals applications.
  • Provide high-level technical support to production and process engineers, utilize Mintab and other available statistical software for batch trends, in-process sample data analysis, SQC, SPC, and Bias studies. This should include Gage, R&R techniques to monitor, improve, and validate analytical methods, equipment, and lab processes.
  • Maintain adequate knowledge of troubleshooting and maintaining laboratory equipment. This should include calibration and standardization. Perform all necessary calibration, standardization, and PM according to ISO 17025
  • Lead assigned investigations of out-of-spec (OOS), out-of-trend (OOT), and non-conformance events related to lab instrumentation and testing; develop and implement corrective actions. Write reports, and present data to the management.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiative in the QC laboratory, including process optimization, automation, and digitalization projects. Support special laboratory sample analysis upon request, particularly when they involve more advanced analytical methodologies and process modifications. Provide technical support for lab-related special assignments as needed.
  • When needed, interface with R&D, and other cross-functional departments in meetings, including new product introduction (NPI), operations, QA, regulatory affairs, EHS, and supply chain to provide necessary laboratory support.

Other general responsibilities:

  • Follows instructions and performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
  • Assists other employees in the accomplishment of the Huntsman company goals.
  • Participates in and completes company-required training programs.
  • Participates in Environmental, Health, & Safety initiatives as set forth by the company

Qualifications

You must possess the below minimum qualifications to be initially considered for this position. Preferred qualifications are in addition to the minimum requirements and are considered a plus factor in identifying top candidates.

The candidate must have an unrestricted right to work for Huntsman in the United States.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science or Chemistry with 7+ years of experience.

Skills and knowledge

  • Analytical lab experience with ICP-MS, ICP-OES, and Liquid Chromatography (LC) preferred.
  • Must have advanced-level GC experience
  • Strong mathematical aptitude
  • Data analysis & interpretation
  • Troubleshooting & root cause analysis
  • Method & technology transfer from R&D experience is a plus
  • Some exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, or Continuous Improvement Methodology
  • Master's or PhD in Chemistry, Materials Science, or Engineering, Preferred
