The R&D Staff Chemist will work extensively in the Heavy Equipment and Transportation market segments supporting Powder coating technologies. This role requires close collaboration with with Marketing, Sales, and the end customers to advance technologies and meet product performance expectations.

Job duties include contact with other employees and access confidential and proprietary information and/or other items of value, and such access may be supervised or unsupervised. * Communicating effectively and promptly with managers, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. This includes formal and informal presentations as needed.
* Analyzing data to identify trends, resolving customer issues and assessing information for project advancement.
* Demonstrating innovation and initiative in developing new project proposals and R&D programs of key technical and commercial significance.
* Leading technically complex projects or multiple simpler projects with minimal supervisor input.
o Establishing timelines and identifying resource needs to support project work.
o May lead project teams, or programs of high difficulty, or several unrelated projects at one time
* Preferred knowledge of powder coatings formulation and manufacturing methodology including TGIC / HAA / Hybrid technology types
* Applying specialized knowledge/skills with polymers, adhesion, raw materials, instrumentation, extrusion, additives, and substrates to develop superior performance coatings and perform root cause analysis when problems arise.
* May directly work with and mentor chemists and technicians to support team project goals.
* Participate in hiring and selection decisions to help drive future state of Powder lab

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
* Must be legally authorized to work in the country for which you are applying for employment (without now or in the future needing sponsorship for employment work visa and/or permanent residence status).
* Bachelor's degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math field.
* Minimum of 7 years of experience in coatings research and development, extrusion process development, and reactive polymer systems
* Experience in formulating coatings and products for commercial applications
* Expertise regarding adhesion and testing of coatings on various substrates
* Full-scale manufacturing experience in coatings or thermoplastic polymers
* Familiarity with color matching theory and instrumentation
* Understands instrumentation and test methods needed to quantify behavior of coatings/ polymers.
* History of mentoring others

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
* Master of Science or Chemistry is preferred.
* 10+ years in powder coatings research and development, or combination of R&D and manufacturing/engineering experience
* Experience in formulating powder coatings for outdoor applications, single and two-coat systems
* Experience in data visualization software to analyze large datasets.
* Experience at designing, executing and analyzing experimental studies to characterize formulation impact on product performance.
* Understands synthesis of polyester and epoxy resins.
* Deep understanding of powder coating raw materials including resins, crosslinkers, pigments, extenders, and performance additives
* Understanding of performance requirements for Heavy Equipment / Transportation markets

Travel Requirements: 30%
