As part of this strategic integration, Boynton Health is pleased to announce the creation of several Mental Health Clinical Manager roles, who will provide strategic leadership to designated mental health service lines. The Clinical Manager, Specialized Individual Mental Health Services plays a key role in ensuring students have access to high-quality mental health care and that mental health staff are supported through strong leadership, infrastructure, and vision.

General Statement of Responsibilities:

Clinical Manager, Specialized Individual Services
The Clinical Manager leads the Specialized Individual Therapy program within Boynton Mental Health and Counseling, overseeing day-to-day operations and reporting to the Director of Counseling and Therapy Clinical Services. This licensed mental health professional provides direct clinical care while supervising a team of therapists delivering mid- to long-term, evidence-based, trauma-responsive treatment to University of Minnesota students.

Key responsibilities include clinical and administrative supervision, advancing quality care through mentorship and performance development, and embedding trauma-responsive, equitable, and inclusive practices across services. The ideal candidate brings expertise in change management and has led clinical initiatives or quality improvement efforts. This role ensures high standards of care, fosters a culture of learning, and maintains a respectful, safe therapeutic environment.

Detailed Job Responsibilities:

Leadership Responsibilities (25%):

  • Provides strategic leadership and clinical supervision for therapists delivering longer-term, specialized psychotherapy, ensuring adherence to evidence-based, trauma-informed care.
  • Leads clinical consultation, case reviews, audits, and policy development to promote consistent, high-quality service delivery aligned with ethical and regulatory standards.
  • Develops and refines protocols, training, and onboarding for new and current staff, supporting clinical excellence and professional growth.
  • Analyzes service utilization and outcome data to identify trends, inform decision-making, and recommend enhancements to the Director and Senior Director of Mental Health.
  • Drives continuous quality improvement in collaboration with the Operations Team, advancing efficiency and client access.
  • Champions the integration and communication of specialized services across teams, contributing to system-wide initiatives and representing the program in cross-functional efforts to elevate overall clinical service delivery.

Clinical Responsibilities (75%):

  • Provide in-person and virtual culturally and trauma-responsive diagnostic assessments and ongoing individual psychotherapy to clients, utilizing trauma-informed, evidence-based interventions tailored to the needs of each individual.
  • Upon completion of the assessment, facilitate referrals to on- and off-campus supportive services, including academic departments, university support services, and community mental health care (i.e., specialized services for higher-level care needs).
  • Assess risk and safety, and provide immediate referrals and access to services as appropriate, such as urgent counseling.
  • Provide backup urgent/crisis counseling coverage to UMN students during regular clinic hours via phone, telehealth, and in-person in the clinic, depending on the clinic's needs.
  • Coordinate services with campus partners (e.g., UMN Care Team, BCT, DRC, ISSS, UMPD) as appropriate.
  • Provide clinical supervision and/or participate in training programs for psychology and master's level practicum students whom they may supervise.
  • Promote a safe, equitable, and respectful professional team environment where concerns can be addressed effectively.
  • Participate in any needed campus-wide response that requires mental health support.
  • Participate in a rotation of end-of-day coverage that may go beyond clinic hours to assist with urgent clinical needs.
  • Provides after-hours on-call mental health crisis support as needed.

This position also performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BA/BS plus at least eight years of experience, or an advanced degree plus at least five years of experience, or a terminal degree plus at least two years of experience.
  • One year of experience, which allows for independent licensure as a mental health therapist in the state of Minnesota.
  • Demonstrated commitment to promoting a culture that respects and advances diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated experience in clinical supervision and training.
  • In-depth knowledge of trauma and systems theory as well as evidence-based therapies.
  • 5 years or more of clinical experience in providing short-term and/or specialized mental health services.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 2 years or more of supervisory experience over mental health professionals.
  • Certification or training in trauma-focused therapeutic modalities (e.g., EMDR, TF-CBT).
  • Experience working with individuals with a broad range of acuity needs.
  • Demonstrated experience with trauma-informed, culturally responsive care.
  • Familiarity with the University of Minnesota and community resources and procedures.
  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and deep understanding of current college mental health trends.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $100,000 - $115,000/year depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
