UDR is seeking qualified candidates for a PRINCIPAL ENGINEER (MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER) opportunity for our customer in Aiken, SC to support the Savannah River Site.
PRINCIPAL ENGINEER (MECHANICAL DESIGN ENGINEER) Close Date: 7/17/2025 Job # 1413 DUTIES (GENERAL) Define scope of technical programs and develop effective, quality solutions to challenges which involve unique or controversial problems. Creatively meet all company and industry requirements and apply site systems to achieve quality, timely and cost-effective results. Give quality guidance and assistance to less senior professionals on related tasks. Apply technical experience in field of specialization or broad-based experience in multiple technical fields, to resolve complex problems. Incorporate advanced technical practices and a variety of complex features such as complicated technical requirements, application of new or special materials or processes and difficult coordination or oversight requirements into problem solving and program planning. Provide leadership in determining solutions to complex problems and be recognized as having expertise in a functional area(s} of technical expertise. Provide direction and position responsibility both inside and outside department lines on programs seeking new approaches to problems and new application of existing engineering or scientific principles. Evaluate the results of programs and prepares reports and recommendations based on these evaluations. Identify and recommend improvements where established technology components and methodology are inadequate for solution. Keep informed of the advancement of technology as applied through one's area of technology. Prepare plans including schedules, budgets and personnel requirements for solving technical tasks identified by management. Develop schedules, monitor progress, monitor expenditures of budget and review quality of work performed. Communicate results and objectives verbally and in manuscripts form to customers colleagues and management. Occasionally prepare reports for external publication. Enhance expertise in field through leadership in local technical societies. Demonstrate creative ability through medium of patent disclosures, problem solving, engineering reports, technical papers and articles. DUTIES (SPECIFIC FOR THE POSTING) Provide design engineering staff augmentation support to SRNS. Primary responsibilities include engineering analysis, design development and generation of design output documents including but not limited to: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews. Engineering services shall be provided using SRNS processes and procedures. Programmatic guidance will be provided by SRNS. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE Education: Ph.D. degree in applicable science or engineering discipline and 5+ years' experience. OR A MS with 8+ years' experience. OR A BS with 10+ years' experience or more. Position specific: BS Degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or current registration as a Professional Engineer in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering Experience/Skills: Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 10 years design experience in the nuclear or process chemical industry. Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience working at one or more DOE facilities. Candidate must demonstrate a minimum of 5 years of experience working in a nuclear industry/facility. Candidate must demonstrate experience creating and revising documentation in one or more of the following areas: Process Flow; Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams; System Descriptions; Mechanical Equipment Lists; Mechanical Equipment Sizing; Pipe and Valve Specifications; Failure Analysis; Accident Analysis; Finite Element Analysis; ASME Code Design and Evaluation; Pipe Stress Analysis; Material Handling Design; Fire Protection Design; HVAC Design; and Vendor Document Reviews. Candidate must be able to perform weekly field walk downs of the job site for the engineering work being performed. These walk downs may involve construction sites with uneven surfaces and work in progress, walking for distances of over half a mile, climbing ladders to access remote areas, dressing out in protective clothing and environments where a respirator is required. OTHER REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Area Security Access: Clearance. ' Q ' Subcontractor must have an active eFOCI registration and approved Facility Level Clearance with DOE / NNSA. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Possession of an active DOE clearance (L or Q) within the past two (2) years is preferred.
