GIS Database Administrator - Junior
SUMMARY
The Spatial Database Administrator will have journey-level professional knowledge and experience in developing, documenting, implementing, securing, and maintaining geospatial and alphanumeric data models and databases in Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS) in both on-premises and cloud environments. This will include skills in Structured Query Language (SQL) and database procedural code such as T-SQL. The Spatial Database Administrator will have knowledge in managing and administering spatial data in geodatabases and associated editing workflows, including publishing and management of geospatial web service-based editing workflows using ArcGIS Enterprise, PostGRE/GIS, and Geoserver. They will also have experience with database instance management, configuration, and disaster recovery for spatial and alphanumeric data. Experience with or willingness to learn how to leverage cloud data storage, processing, and analytics in Microsoft Azure or Amazon Web Services (AWS) since the technical stack is a hybrid cloud environment.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
Salary Range: $80,000 - $105,000

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Development, Maintenance, and Operations of Enterprise Geodatabases and associated SQL Server or Postgres Instances.
- Create functional specifications and recommend solutions for alphanumeric and geospatial data systems.
- Develop and maintain databases and data systems, reorganizing data in a readable format. Use automated tools to extract data from various sources, remove or repair corrupted data, and fix coding errors and related problems.
- Assist in defining database physical structures and functional capabilities and current and future storage requirements.
- Assist in developing and documenting appropriate metadata records (business, technical, process, and operational) for the contents of developed data management systems and data standards.
- Assist and maintain enterprise data architecture to support business requirements.
- Develop and implement physical data models for both tabular and geospatial data systems and reverse engineer physical databases as needed by various business units/program areas.
- Monitor and optimize database(s) performance and user access, plan for backup and restoration/recovery of database information, manage and monitor data replication.
- Publish geospatial web services to support feature service editing workflows and branch versioning. Configure Enterprise Geodatabases and web services to support various workflows in support of customer requirements.
- Maintain database and instance performance by calculating optimum values for database parameters.
- Assist in implementing new releases, completing maintenance requirements.
- Document and develop these processes to better align with security best practices and to support the development of our Authority to Operation (ATO), and
- Possess familiarity with, and willingness to learn, unstructured and NoSQL data patterns such as graph databases, JSON document and key-value stores, and other emerging technologies that best fit with identified customer requirements.
- Assist with implementing and monitoring applicable security controls as defined by the most recent release of the applicable Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) under the direction and supervision of the IT Security Officer (ITSO).
- Provide input to Plan of Action and Milestones (POAM) for any non-compliant Authority to Operate (ATO) boundary checks related to SQL databases.
- Respond to and remediate security alerts concerning administered databases instances

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Business Administration, Computer Science, or a related field is required; a Master's degree in a relevant discipline is strongly preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years' experience with Enterprise Geodatabases on MS SQL Server and PostGre/GIS, including SQL Instance management.
- Minimum of 2-years' experience publishing geospatial web services using ArcGIS Enterprise, ArcGIS Online, and open-source GIS Content Management Platforms.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY
- No supervision is required for this position.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Work can be performed at the contractor's facility or at the National Park Service (NPS) facility at Building 50, Denver Federal Center, Lakewood, CO 80225.
- Remote work is allowed with COR or task inspector approval.
