Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
Position Summary:
The Temporary Garden Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the
UNCW Applied Learning Garden, a hands-on educational space that supports sustainable agriculture, student engagement, and community outreach. This role is ideal for someone passionate about sustainable farming, education, and community development.
Key Responsibilities:
Garden Operations & Planning
- Manage seasonal crop planning, planting, cultivation, and harvesting.
- Implement sustainable and organic farming practices.
- Monitor soil health, irrigation systems, and pest management.
Team & Volunteer Coordination
- Oversee student workers, interns, and volunteers.
- Provide training and guidance on safe and effective farming techniques.
Maintenance & Infrastructure
- Maintain tools, equipment, and infrastructure.
- Ensure cleanliness, safety, and organization of the garden space.
Educational & Community Engagement
- Support applied learning experiences for UNCW students, Faculty, and Staff.
- Assist with workshops, tours, and outreach events.
Administrative Duties
- Track harvest yields, expenses, and supply inventory.
- Provide regular updates and reports to the Chief Sustainability Officer.

Qualifications:
- Experience in small-scale or urban farming, preferably in an educational or community setting.
