The University of Wisconsin - Platteville is hiring Custodians to help maintain a vibrant, welcoming campus while enjoying dependable employment, excellent benefits, and a positive work-life balance. As a Custodian, you will play a vital role in keeping our campus clean, safe, and welcoming while building meaningful connections with students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

As a Custodian at UW-Platteville, you'll support the upkeep of historic landmarks like Ullrich Hall, a 1916 academic building that is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. At the same time, you'll work around Sesquicentennial Hall, a state-of-the-art engineering and science facility, which contains the expansive Huff Family Innovation Center, one of the largest makerspaces in the Midwest.

Key Job Responsibilities:
  • Maintains clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice
  • Monitors and secures facility interior and exterior entrances and reports issues to appropriate entities
  • Maintains organization of supply areas and equipment, documents inventory, and requests additional supplies as needed
  • Documents and reports repairs, violations, and pest control needs
  • Utilizes basic equipment and supplies to clean assigned facility areas and remove waste and recyclables

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Effectively perform and meet cleaning and maintenance expectations in assigned areas.

  • Maintain clean and clear walkways to ensure they are free of debris, litter, snow, and ice.

  • Maintain organization of supply areas and equipment.

  • Work with campus customers, co-workers, and supervisors as a team

  • Remove waste and recyclables from assigned residential areas using equipment and supplies.

  • Assemble and move furniture, equipment and deliver supplies as needed or requested.

  • Operate specialized machinery and work with chemicals.

Required Qualifications:

  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, move furnishings and work on feet for prolonged periods of time.

  • Ability to safely lift up to 50 pounds with or without mechanical assistance.

  • Excellent communication skills

  • Basic computer skills.

  • Ablility to read work instructions and schedules, warning labels and instructions for equipment operation

  • H.S. Diploma or GED
