Responsibilities
In your job, you will have the ability to make a difference in a patient's journey by:
- Assist in supervision of Medical Assistants and other non-licensed patient care providers.
- Coordinate daily room assignments for Medical Assistants.
- Orient and train new Medical Assistants and provide input into MA performance appraisals.
- Answer incoming patient telephone calls for referral to nurse, pharmacist, or physician.
- Call in prescriptions and make other patient calls as directed.
- Escort patients to and from exam rooms, physician offices, and treatment room as appropriate.
- Record patient data prior to each physician visit, including but not limited to, vital signs, height, weight, allergies, and medication changes.
- Obtain all necessary patient records as required by physician and verifies presence of consent prior to treatment or procedures.
- Prepare and stocks exam/treatment rooms and order supplies as needed.
- Assist physicians with exams and procedures as requested.
- Assist with delegated patient education including but not limited to distributing education literature, etc.
- File all labs and outside reports accurately and as needed.
- Obtain blood specimens from peripheral sites as needed and in accordance with OSHA and universal precautions.
- Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections, including but not limited to, hormones and biological growth factors.
- Answer patient telephone calls for referral to physician or nurse/pharmacist.
- Schedule patient tests, procedures and hospital admissions and schedule appointments to follow-up on receipt of test results, as applicable.
- Assist with select pre-authorizations and pre-certifications as needed.
- Inform physician of patient reschedules and no shows.
- Obtain new patient records and previous test results, x-rays, scans, etc.
- Perform other administrative duties, i.e. typing, filing faxing reception, etc, as requested by supervisor or physician.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum five years' experience as a medical assistant or nursing assistant in a hospital or clinic setting.
- Current CPR certification required.
- Certificate of graduation from an accredited program for Medical Assistants.
What You Bring to the Team:
- Management or lead experience is strongly preferred.
- Oncology experience a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Phlebotomy experience preferred.
