The Comparative Neural Systems and Behavior Lab (aka Batlab) in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at Johns Hopkins University invites applications from postdoctoral scientists to join our team. Our research leverages the active sensing systems of echolocating bats to investigate the neural underpinnings of spatial attention, navigation, learning, and memory, https://www.batlabatjohnshopkinsuniversity.org/.

We are part of a newly established Simons Collaboration on Ecological Neuroscience (SCENE), which embarks on a multi-species, theory-driven effort to test the hypothesis that the brain encodes affordances, the opportunities for actions that the environment provides. High density neural recordings from hippocampus, superior colliculus and prefrontal cortex of freely behaving bats will yield empirical data to delineate core neuro-computational principles governing scene analysis, motor planning and action selection.

Our laboratory fosters a supportive environment that encourages the scientific growth and development of all team members. Johns Hopkins University also offers a range of opportunities for professional development. Preference will be given to applicants with experience in multichannel extracellular recordings in behaving animals, two-photon imaging, histology and/or computational methods. If interested in joining our research team, please send a cover letter, CV, and the names/contact information of three references to Cynthia F. Moss:cynthia.moss@jhu.edu.
