Senior CUAS Engineer

Astrion is seeking a technically adept and mission-driven Senior CUAS Engineer to support a Government Department's Counter-Unmanned Aircraft Systems (CUAS) program. This role will lead engineering efforts across detection, tracking, mitigation, and integration of CUAS technologies into operational environments.

The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in RF systems, sensor fusion, autonomous platforms, and system-of-systems integration, with a strong understanding of Department mission needs and operational constraints.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • U.S. Citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace, or related technical field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering roles supporting defense or homeland security programs.
  • Expertise in RF systems, sensor integration, and autonomous platforms.
  • Experience with CUAS technologies, countermeasure systems, or airspace surveillance.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or similar tools for modeling and analysis.
  • Familiarity with system engineering lifecycle, including requirements development, integration, and verification.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

  • Master's degree in Engineering or Applied Sciences.
  • Experience supporting DHS, DoD, or IC programs.
  • Knowledge of FAA regulations, spectrum management, and airspace deconfliction.
  • Certifications such as INCOSE CSEP, PMP, or DAWIA Level III in Engineering.
  • Experience with maritime CUAS deployments or mobile sensor platforms.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead engineering design, integration, and testing of CUAS technologies across Department components.
  • Evaluate and validate sensor systems (radar, EO/IR, RF) for detection and tracking of UAS threats.
  • Support system architecture development for multi-domain CUAS platforms, including fixed, mobile, and maritime deployments.
  • Conduct performance assessments, modeling, and simulation of CUAS systems under operational scenarios.
  • Collaborate with acquisition and program teams to define technical requirements and interface specifications.
  • Oversee vendor technical deliverables, ensuring compliance with Department standards and interoperability goals.
  • Provide engineering input to CONOPS development, TTPs, and operational readiness assessments.
  • Support test events, field evaluations, and red team exercises to validate CUAS capabilities.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, including system design reviews, risk assessments, and engineering change proposals.
