Registered Nurse (RN) Unit Supervisor Job Responsibilities:
- Leads unit operations, ensuring high-quality results and adherence to best practices.
- Embraces nursing research and quality tools to improve clinical operations.
- Supports unit-based shared governance and decentralized decision-making.
- Acts as a role model, prioritizing patient experience and "Service Always."
- Engages with the healthcare team to support Inova's "People Priority" through recognition, coaching, and mentoring.
- Conducts high-quality shift huddles, addressing priorities, barriers, and outcomes.
- Leads safety huddles, conducts environmental and safety rounds, and ensures completion of patient, Medical Director, and RN rounding.
- Rounds on staff to remove barriers and enhance staff engagement.
- Reviews core measures and key performance indicators to drive improvements in outcomes.
- Participates in emergency preparedness drills and simulation labs.
- Ensures compliance with The Joint Commission standards and educates staff on relevant standards.
- Contributes to quality improvement initiatives and supports strategic outcomes.
- Models effective communication with patients and resolves concerns or difficult situations.
- Serves as Physician Liaison and primary information resource for the unit.
- Collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure smooth patient flow and discharge planning.
- Assesses and forecasts staffing and supply needs, resolving discrepancies proactively.
- Assists in annual evaluations, participates in the disciplinary process, and supports recruitment efforts.
- Provides coaching and counseling on critical processes, standards, and problem-solving.
- Advocates for clinical staff and fosters an environment of mutual trust.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Associate Degree RNs that are within one year of completing their BSN
- Experience: One year of Registered Nurse clinical experience.
- Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association upon start; Completion of a revised Charge Nurse workshop within 3 months of hire
- Licensure: Licensed or eligible for licensure in the Commonwealth of Virginia as a Registered Nurse or an active multi-state Registered Nurse license
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty Certification as required by the unit (within 12 months of hire)
- (BSN) Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Two years of recent Registered Nurse (RN) experience on an inpatient Labor and Delivery Unit.
- Charge Registered Nurse (RN) experience in an inpatient Labor and Delivery Unit.
- Recent Registered Nurse experience in the OR and circulating C- Section
