Overview
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Manufacturing Engineer to support Department of Defense (DoD) aviation programs in a build-to-print manufacturing environment. The successful candidate will serve as the technical liaison between engineering, production, and quality teams while ensuring compliance with military specifications and contract requirements. The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and reviewing procedures and equipment involved in the manufacturing process. The Electrical Engineer will provide hands-on engineering support for manufacturing and troubleshooting electrical harnesses, wiring systems, and electronic assemblies in an aerospace and defense environment. This role focuses on build-to-print production, manufacturing issue resolution, and compliance with EMI/EMC and environmental standards. The engineer will ensure all work meets the requirements of AS9100/AS9110, SAE AS50881, and applicable DoD/MIL specifications.
Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
Provide electrical engineering support to resolve manufacturing and test issues in harness assembly, power distribution, and avionics integration.
- Ensure harness builds conform to SAE AS50881 and related DoD and OEM specifications.
- Interpret and apply MIL-STD-461 and MIL-STD-464 requirements for electromagnetic interference (EMI), compatibility (EMC), and electromagnetic environmental effects (E3).
- Develop and oversee electrical testing, including continuity, insulation resistance, and hipot (high-potential dielectric) testing to verify wiring integrity.
- Lead root cause and corrective action (RCCA) investigations for test failures, nonconformances, and field issues.
- Collaborate with quality, production, and design teams to improve manufacturability and reduce rework.
- Review and approve test procedures, acceptance criteria, and inspection checklists to ensure compliance and repeatability.
- Participate in configuration control, first article inspections (FAI), and internal/external audits.
- Support build-to-print production, ensuring wiring diagrams, assembly drawings, and bills of material are correctly interpreted and executed on the manufacturing floor.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Electronics Engineering Technology, or related field.
- Minimum 6 years of experience supporting aerospace or defense manufacturing.
- Proficient with SAE AS50881, MIL-STD-461, MIL-STD-464, and related DoD or OEM specifications.
- Hands-on experience with electrical harness fabrication, termination, and testing, including hipot and insulation resistance testing.
- Strong understanding of electrical test methodologies, instrumentation, and data interpretation.
- Ability to read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and build-to-print documentation.
- Familiarity with AS9100/AS9110 quality systems and manufacturing documentation control.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with a proactive and detail-oriented approach.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience using harness design or documentation tools (e.g., Draftsight, AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks).
- Prior experience with aircraft, ground systems, or mission equipment integration.
- Active or previous DoD security clearance.
