Responsibilities

Springwoods Behavioral Health, an 80-bed behavioral health facility located in Fayetteville, Arkansas, provides acute inpatient treatment for adolescent, adult, and specialty program for women. The hospital also offers outpatient treatment. Our six-acre campus is adjacent to a 123-acre Audubon Wildlife and Bird Sanctuary, which is held in perpetuity and cannot be developed from its natural state. This provides Springwoods with a peaceful setting for those embarked on the road to recovery.

Position Summary:

This position is responsible for the Infection Control Program and the administration and coordination of the Employee Health Program.

As a representative of Springwoods Behavioral Health and Universal Health Services, Inc, all comments, attitudes, actions, and behaviors have a direct affect on the hospital's image and perceptions of quality service. Interaction with patients, physicians, referral sources, affiliate schools, guests, visitors, volunteer workers, co-workers, supervisors, vendors, etc. must be in a manner that is friendly, supportive, courteous, respectful, cooperative, and professional. This behavior should promote an atmosphere of teamwork, which is congruent with hospital standards and guidelines to promote positive relations.

SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES:

  1. Knowledge of infection control procedures, IOSHA, OSHA and CDC guidelines.
  2. Knowledge of the principles of epidemiology and infectious disease.
  3. Knowledge of psychiatric and medical nursing procedures.
  4. Knowledge of all code procedures.
  5. Knowledge of general and psychiatric nursing principles, working concepts and theory, leadership skills, age specific growth and development, limit setting, crisis and behavior management.
  6. Knowledge of Joint Commission and other federal, state and local laws that govern healthcare.
  7. Effective verbal and written communication skills are required to communicate with patients, families, physicians, and hospital staff. Ability to meet and deal effectively with the public, department managers, and employees.
  8. Must be able to develop presentation and effectively convey the materials to staff through a variety of methods (presentation, verbal, written).
  9. Must be able to exercise good judgment and make recommendations in the best interest of the hospital and its employees. Must be able to demonstrate leadership ability.
  10. Maintain all competencies required by Joint Commission, laws, hospital policies and other regulatory agencies.
  11. Good organization and time management skills - able to meet deadlines.
  12. Understands and demonstrates knowledge of Springwoods Behavioral Health policies and procedures regarding orientation and employee education.
  13. Ability to work as a team player.
  14. Compiles monthly list of employees due for CPR, TB skin tests, Re-orientation, Verbal De-escalation and Handle With Care and coordinates schedules for above classes.

The Infection Control/Clinical Education Nurse, under the direction of the CNO, is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and monitoring of all facets of the Infection Prevention Program provided at the facility in addition to her role as a Clinical Educator. The functions related to infection control require 10-20 hours per week are devoted to these duties.

The Clinical Educator provides opportunities for the formal and informal growth and development of clinical and non-clinical staff while working closely with other members of the management team and nursing team. This position is also responsible for the development of new hire orientation which will include input from all levels of staff. Additional education responsibilities will include the coordination of Handle with Care (HWC), CPR and Health Stream, along with the Human Resources Director.


Qualifications

License or Certifications: Current Licensure as an RN in the state of Arkansas. Valid driver's license. CPR certification and successful completion of Handle With Care within 30 days of employment.

Total education, training and experience: Bachelor's degree and/or Master's degree preferred. A minimum of three (3) years experience as a registered nurse in a behavioral health setting; two (2) years staff development/teaching experience preferred.
