Position Summary

Under minimal supervision, this position is responsible and accountable for the direct supervision, coordination of work, inspection of work and performance evaluation of the Electrical and Electronic Instruments and Controls Mechanics. They will act as the technical advisor to the Associate Director of Infrastructure and Director of Network Engineering & Infrastructure, in the areas of installation, construction, and maintenance of the University's copper and fiber infrastructure (inside and outside plant) This position is also responsible for performing hands-on field work as needed to support the maintenance of Campus IT Infrastructure. Customer service skills and attention to detail is needed for a successful candidate.


Duties & Responsibilities

  • Process customer orders for the installation of voice, video, and data communication services as well as service orders for the maintenance and repair of communication equipment and circuits. Assign daily workloads for EEICM Technicians.
  • Coordinate work orders with clients and update TDX ticketing system.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on infrastructure and IT hardware.
  • Provide records of all time and material costs associated with installations, projects and repair. Keep work orders on budget with estimates. Monitor and oversee the maintenance of traditional telephony circuits and campus network wiring. Coordinate projects, perform site surveys, develop scopes, and provide cost estimates.
  • Attend meetings on behalf of Technology Solutions to Ensure standards and design are followed and enforced.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications

  1. Experience sufficient to qualify as a journeyman electrician, with a minimum of four (4) years/48 months of actual work in the trade, which may include apprentice and/or vocational training. The trade for this purpose shall include work normally performed by a/an Electrician, Maintenance Electrician, Journeyman Electrician, Inside Wireman, Control Electrician, Electrician Technician, Industrial Electrician, Journeyman Wireman, and/or Communications Journeyman.
  2. Completion of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers' (IBEW) Communications Program with possession of a current C-Card (Communications certification) or higher level of certification AND possession of current Building Industry Consulting Services International (BICSI)'s ITS Technician credential or completion of BICSI's ITS Technician's continuing education/training within the last three (3) years/36 months.
  3. Five (5) years/60 months of experience/training in the maintenance of electrical and electronic systems, telecommunications systems, etc. that was gained in the last seven (7) years/84 months. This experience/training may include experience/training used to satisfy Credential Requirement #1 above.

Preferred Qualifications
  • College degree. Demonstration of continuing education on telecommunication technologies.
  • Previous experience as a Foreman in the communications industry
  • Supervisory experience. Experience managing and developing budget for telecommunication projects.
  • Knowledge in the voice and data telecommunications and electrical field. Versed in the ANSI EIA/TIA structured wiring standards, basic FCC rules and local codes as they apply to communications systems.
  • Calero Pinnacle billing system.
  • Networking concepts such as DHCP, VLANs, TCP/IP.
  • Skilled in using testing equipment used to maintain copper and fiber plant. Troubleshoot voice and data circuits.
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills. Mechanical and analytical ability for problem solving.
  • Microsoft: Office suite, Microsoft Visio, and AutoDesk AutoCAD. Email and calendaring.
  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, schematics and diagrams.
  • Reviewing as-builds and blue prints for local, state, and University compliance.
  • Organize, track, and reconcile, and schedule work assignments.
  • Communicate and collaborate well with coworkers and subordinates.
  • Respond to emergency and after hour incidents.
  • Foster relationships all other areas within Technology Solutions and University departments.
  • Ability to handle billing procedures and job assignments
  • Attend meetings as a Subject Matter Expert on behalf of Technology Solutions and take detailed notes.
