Position Summary:

The Uncertified Lumber Grader learns the requisite grading rules of the Western Wood Products Association (WWPA) and identifies grades of lumber with the goal of becoming a Certified Lumber Grader.

Duties/Responsibilities:



  • Comply with safety standards at all times and correct/report any observed safety hazards.
  • Learn and practice assigning grades in a manner that is consistent with the guidelines established by the company and the WWPA.
  • Mark lumber for trimming to obtain the highest marketable value from the material.
  • Clearly mark boards with the correct grade mark and verify stamp legibility.
  • Participate in the inspection of completed units to ensure highest grading accuracy and profitability.
  • Report any planer manufacturing defects immediately to the department supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as required by supervisor.
  • On-site attendance is essential to effectively perform the listed duties and responsibilities.


Position Requirements: Must meet position requirements to be considered a candidate for this position.



  • Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older.
  • Prior lumber manufacturing experience and knowledge preferred.
  • Ability to understand decimals, fractions and read a measuring tape.
  • Ability to follow all company, state and federal safety rules when performing required job duties.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment criminal history check and a pre-employment drug screening.


Environmental Conditions:

May be exposed to dust, noise, trip hazards, and extreme temperatures.

Required Personal Protective Equipment:

Individuals must be willing to wear the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times. Positions may require additional PPE at specific times. Examples of PPE which may be required include high visibility garments, hand protection, eye protection, hearing protection, a hard hat, foot protection, and a face shield.
