What You Will Do:

As a Traffic / Transportation Engineer you will apply technical expertise, work with project teams, coordinate client stakeholders and manage relationships with contractors and sub-consultants on a variety of conventional and unconventional projects with our North Carolina and Mid-Atlantic states. Projects may also include other clients (Federal, local government agencies, institutions, private sector, etc.) and other regions nationally as opportunities are available. This is a dynamic environment with short deadlines and a high level of interaction with the client day to day.

The position can be based in any of the GFT's Raleigh, Charlotte, Asheville, and Wilmington offices. This is mostly an indoor position, but some outdoor field work is also required. Some travel and overtime may be required based on project needs.

What you'll be challenged to do:

Qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate progressive experience in transportation engineering, with specialized skills and experience in traffic analysis and design.

In this capacity, the successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

  • Participate in interdisciplinary teams with technical responsibilities in the areas of traffic operations analysis, traffic safety analysis, multimodal assessment, traffic data collection, traffic signal design, and signing and striping plan preparation.
  • Prepare project deliverables including traffic impact analyses (TIA), traffic capacity analysis reports, signal design plans, specifications, cost estimates, and technical documents.
  • Participate in client meetings and the presentation of project findings to technical and lay audiences.
  • Participate in the preparation of contract and task proposals and negotiations as needed.
  • Review and manage project schedules and budgets.
  • Provide general traffic engineering staff assistance for GFT practice teams and clients.
Education | Experience:
What you will bring to our firm:
  • Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Civil Engineering or a related degree.
  • A minimum of four (4) years' experience in transportation and/or traffic engineering and design to include maintenance of traffic, signing, markings and signals.
  • Strong experience using HCS, Synchro/SimTraffic, Sidra, and VISSIM/TransModeler analysis software.
  • Familiar with ArcGIS, MicroStation and/or AutoCAD software.
What we prefer you bring:
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.) registration is strongly desired.
  • Experience with the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is considered a plus.
  • Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) Certification is desirable.
  • Strong public speaking skills with good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously both independently and as an integral part of a design team.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $90,000 - $110,000. Salary is dependent upon experience and geographic location.
