Job Summary

The Aerospace Corporation is seeking an accounting professional with strong experience to manage our General Accounting Department.In this key role, you will oversee the operations of our daily general accounting functions such as month-end and year-end close, weekly invoicing of our primary customer, labor, cash management, fixed assets, and the subsidiary's accounting. The selected candidate will be required to work full-time, on-site at our facility in El Segundo, CA.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Lead and manage the daily operations of the General Accounting Department
  • Lead, train, develop, and motivate department personnel.
  • Oversee month-end and year-end close, contract billings, cash management, fixed assets, labor, cash receipts, account reconciliations, and chart of accounts.
  • Monitor corporate cash flow / funding.
  • Ensure costs are recorded in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), and Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR).
  • Maintain internal controls; design and implement internal controls as needed.
  • Communicate accounting policies and procedures; update accounting policies and procedures as needed
  • Interface with internal and external auditors; provide general and detailed information in response to audit requests.
  • Develop and implement process improvements with an emphasis on accuracy and efficiency.
  • Oversee documentation and update of department desk procedures and process flows to ensure all key departmental activities are documented.
  • Improve processes through system improvements.
  • Work on special projects as needed.
  • Interfaces with senior management.

What You Need to be Successful - Accounting Manager

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field.
  • Six or more years of progressively responsible experience in accounting, with a proven understanding of accounting principles and GAAP.
  • Strong understanding of internal controls.
  • Experience interfacing with and responding to auditors.
  • Strong computer skills with proficiency in Excel; including data analysis.
  • Excellent interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

How You Can Stand Out

It would be impressive if you have one or more of these:

  • CPA certification and/or public accounting experience.
  • M.S. in Accounting or an MBA.
  • Supervisory experience in general accounting field.
  • Experience in general accounting operations, including month-end and year-end close processes.
  • Proficiency with SAP or other large ERP systems.
  • Experience in designing and implementing internal controls.
  • Experience in developing and implementing process improvements, with system implementations considered a plus.
  • Experience in documenting desk procedures.
  • Familiarity with and understanding of FAR and CAS.
  • Experience in analyzing large sets of data using Microsoft Excel, Power Query, and/or Power Pivot.

We offer a competitive compensation package where you'll be rewarded based on your performance and recognized for the value you bring to our business. The grade-based pay range for this job is listed below. Individual salaries within that range are determined through a wide variety of factors including but not limited to education, experience, knowledge and skills.
