Job Summary

Supports the Property & Casualty analytics team by assisting with data analysis, reporting, and model development. Learns to uncover business insights through statistical and visualization techniques, contributes to predictive modeling efforts, and helps translate business needs into analytical solutions. Collaborates with cross-functional teams, supports data gathering and documentation, and applies best practices under the guidance of senior analysts to enhance decision-making in areas such as pricing, underwriting, and claims.



Work Location

This position offers both remote and hybrid work locations. Candidates who reside within 50 miles of an office location (West Bend, Madison, Appleton) will be offered a hybrid work schedule. Candidates who are fully remote (beyond 50 miles) may occasionally be asked to travel to an office location for in-person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and corporate events.



Responsibilities & Qualifications

Summary of Responsibilities

The Assistant Data Scientist plays a foundational role in supporting the analysis and modeling of Property & Casualty (P&C) insurance business problems. This entry-level position is designed for individuals beginning their data science careers, with a focus on learning and contributing to analytics that inform business decisions.

Key Responsibilities

    Assist in analyzing P&C insurance data and learning to uncover insights using statistical, algorithmic, data-mining, and visualization techniques.
  • Support the preparation of analytics and reporting that contribute to leadership decision-making.
  • Learn to develop and apply basic predictive models and algorithms to business functions such as pricing, underwriting, and claims.
  • Help translate business needs into analytic tasks and reporting requirements.
  • Document and share modeling work under guidance for business users and stakeholders.
  • Support data gathering and prioritization for analytical projects.
  • Learn to identify internal and external data sources and contribute to solution development.
  • Collaborate with other teams to turn business concepts into practical model applications.
  • Apply best practices shared by senior staff and participate in team learning initiatives.
  • Assist in reviewing external data and vendor models under supervision.

Preferred Experience and Skills

  • 0-2 years analytics/predictive modeling experience.
  • Basic understanding with insurance data, data sources, and basic processes
  • Familiarity statistical modeling techniques and use of statistical platforms (SAS, R, and Python)
  • Ability to work with structured data and willingness to learn cloud data tools.
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal and collaboration skills

Preferred Education and Training

  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field.


Salary Statement

The salary range for this position is $84,114-$105,143.

The actual base pay offered to the successful candidate will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge/skills, experience, business needs, geographical location, and internal equity. Compensation decisions are made by West Bend and are dependent upon the facts and circumstances of each position and candidate.
