Overview

General Dynamics Electric Boat provides an unparalleled learning experience for college students, offering practical exposure in the defense industry alongside professionals, shaping and supporting the future of submarine innovation.

Environmental, Health & Safety (EH&S) interns are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. This is the opportunity to kick start your career and gain EH&S work experience!

Program Highlights

    Duration: A minimum of 8 weeks during Summer 2026.
  • Location: The position is on-site and you may be placed in any of the following locations:
    • Connecticut: Groton, New London, North Stonington
    • Rhode Island: North Kingstown
  • Relocation Assistance: This internship is not eligible for a housing stipend or relocation assistance.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Enrolled full-time at a College or University
  • Completed at least Freshman year by Summer 2026
  • Pursing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.

Preferred:

  • Familiarity with OSHA safety and health standards or environmental regulations.
  • Strong interest in safety and/or industrial hygiene fields, or
  • Strong interest in occupational sciences/engineering and how environmental regulations apply in the shipbuilding environment.
  • Strong interest in a shipyard trade or construction environment.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to learn new skills and apply them
  • Ability to solve problems in a constructive manner
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Proficient with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Office)
