What to Expect
We are seeking a skilled Fire Alarm Technician to join our team at GFTX Austin, TX. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of fire alarm systems and other fire protection systems, including sprinklers and special hazard equipment. This role ensures all systems are fully compliant with local codes, regulations, and company standards.
What You'll Do
- Install, inspect, and configure fire alarm systems and components in accordance with all safety and regulatory requirements
- Diagnose, repair, and replace fire alarm system equipment as needed when new issues arise
- Assist with Fire Marshal final inspections and system commissioning
- Support preventive maintenance (PM) activities for special hazard, suppression, and sprinkler systems
- Participate in routine inspections and maintenance of portable and wheeled fire extinguishers
- Accurately complete service reports, inspection forms, and maintenance logs, ensuring compliance with company and regulatory standards
What You'll Bring
- Minimum 3 years of experience in fire alarm system installation, maintenance, and service valid FAL and FEL licenses required
- RME and NICET certifications preferred but not required
- Strong proficiency in fire alarm installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting, with basic understanding of sprinkler and special hazard systems
- Familiarity with programming and configuration of fire alarm systems; Notifier certification preferred
- Solid knowledge of NFPA 72, NFPA 70, IFC, and IBC codes
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interaction with team members and stakeholders
Essential Physical Demands
- Ability to perform physically demanding work for extended periods of time, up to 12 hours a day
- Ability to stand and walk for up to 12 hours a day, including over varied and uneven terrain
- Frequently and repetitively, lift, push and carry up to 35 lbs., including the ability to carry 20 lbs. up and down stairs
- Frequently and repetitively, bend, lift and reach to install parts
- Stoop, lay, bend, reach, squat, kneel, crouch, twist and crawl for extended periods of time, including up to 12 hours a day
- Climb and maintain balance on ladders, scaffolding or other high structures
- Ability to find issues in a work process and receive safety signals using sight, touch, and hearing
- Wearing Personal Protective Equipment, including but not limited to: hard hat, safety glasses, safety shoes, reflective vest, and adhering to prescribed safety rules and guidelines
