Overview

As a Manufacturing Engineer I - Automation, you'll play a critical role in supporting the manufacturing of high-precision optical components. As an Automation Engineer you will be expected to design, develop, and implement automation systems that improve efficiency, quality, and reliability in our production processes. The Automation Engineer will have experience with automation tools, scripting, system integration, and troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, or software domains. They will have a passion and interest to learn and contribute in transforming current processes with automated solutions to enhance our competitiveness in the high-end optical components market. The ability to work and collaborate with partners both internal and external will be critical.



Responsibilities

    Assist the design, development, configuration and implementation of mechanical/electronic systems, which will optimize efficiencies, stabilize yield and enhance EO's capabilities, from concept to pilot
  • Analyze current manual processes and identify opportunities for automation.
  • Provide timely support to the relevant OPs teams on the running of processes through pilot phase and into production phase and create and maintain solution documentation.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, QA, and Manufacturing.
  • Document automation procedures, configurations, and maintenance logs.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve automation-related issues promptly.
  • Conduct cost-benefit analysis and risk assessments for automation projects.
  • Stay up to date with new technologies and trends in automation.
  • Work onsite, arrive on time, and schedule PTO Accordingly
  • Communicate issues and problems with your manager in a timely fashion
  • Cleaning and general housekeeping of work area / factory
  • Participate in 5S and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Comply with federal, state, and company policies, procedures, and regulations


Qualifications

Required Skills & Abilities:

  • Proven track record of developing and implementing automation solutions
  • Demonstrable experience setting up programmable logic controller (PLC), single-board computers and/or robotic or automated systems, preferably in an industrial environment would be advantageous
  • Results oriented and possessing a hands-on attitude
  • Solid team player, strong interpersonal skills in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
  • Analytical problem solving and attention to detail
  • Highly self-driven and ability to work independently

Education/Experience:

Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical and Electronics Engineering or other relevant Engineering or Physics field

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for long periods; ability to travel; adequate manual dexterity to perform essential functions; ability to use some physical efforts in the handling of heavy materials and machinery; ability to lift 25 lbs.; ability to work in manufacturing environment.

Other Requirements:

U.S. Citizenship or permanent residence required.

Compensation Range Transparency:

At Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.

Salary Range:
$60,000-$70,000 per year
