KPMG is currently seeking a Managing Director to join our Washington National Tax (WNT) Trade and Customs practice.

Responsibilities:
  • Work closely with Trade and Customs (T&C) field professionals and other offices of KPMG LLP (including KPMG International member firms and other WNT practice groups) to advise a full range of corporate clients, including major multinational clients, on trade and customs matters
  • Research and analyze U.S. and international import and export trade matters and monitor new developments in trade and customs to assist T&C field professionals, understanding and identifying impact to current clients with go-to-market activities
  • Serve as a specialist on Trade and Customs issues, including developing and providing instruction for internal firm courses, client training and conferences, authoring and reviewing articles and participating in professional activities
  • Performing risk management activities, such as technical reviews to ensure quality and brand protection
  • Contribute to the growth, experience and institutional knowledge of Trade and Customs staff level team members
Qualifications:
  • Minimum five to ten years of recent experience as a trade and customs attorney with experience in the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the U.S., federal customs regulations, free trade agreements, entry processes, valuation, country of origin determinations and informed compliance methods
  • Bachelors degree from an accredited college/university and JD/LLM; preference for professionals who also have a working understanding or experience with export controls (BIS/DDTC), sanctions (OFAC) and antidumping / countervailing duties (Commerce) matters
  • Experience with large project management including managing multiple client engagements and client service teams
  • Excellent legal research, advisory and compliance skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to articulate complex information, including the ability to translate research findings into clear and actionable results
  • Previous experience in a tax or advisory services firm, corporation or trade law firm and ability to travel both domestically and internationally
