The USC Price Office of Admissions is seeking an innovative and driven Admission Counselor I to join our team! This is an exciting opportunity to join an energetic and collaborative team passionate about supporting students throughout the admission process and places great importance on staff member support and professional development. The Admission Counselor will work closely with prospective undergraduate and graduate students and assist with the admission process by successfully recruiting, processing, and reviewing applications and enrolling students. The position will serve as the primary coordinator for USC Price undergraduate recruitment and yield initiatives, working closely with the Associate Director of Admissions. The ideal candidate is motivated, creative, passionate, and highly detail oriented with the ability to work well in a team setting, as well as independently. Position summary:
  • Makes admission decisions for undergraduate and/or graduate programs in accordance with admission guidelines.

  • Counsels undergraduate and graduate applicants on admission policies and procedures. Evaluates and offers solutions to applicant problems and requests regarding admission. Applies transfer credit guidelines in review and assessment of applications as appropriate.

  • Communicate in person, by telephone and in writing with domestic and international applicants about status of admission applications.

  • Schedules recruitment activities for targeted undergraduate and graduate student population. Works with faculty, staff, alumni, students, and counselors to coordinate recruitment efforts.

  • Serve as the primary coordinator for USC Price undergraduate recruitment and yield initiatives, working closely with the Associate Director of Admissions.

  • Reviews student records, inputs data, and generates letters and/or lists utilizing the student database.

  • Maintains currency on university policies affecting undergraduate and graduate admissions and transfer credit evaluation.

  • Assists in the preparation of communications materials promoting admissions programs and activities (e.g., bulletins, fact sheets and brochures).

  • Serves on departmental or university committees as requested and participates in special assignments or short-term projects as needed. May be designated to lead other staff in project work.

  • Hire, train, and supervise front-desk student workers.

Job Qualifications and Experience:
  • General knowledge of undergraduate and graduate admissions processes and policies.

  • Analytical and able to make sound judgments/decisions.

  • Excellent organization and prioritization, customer service, oral/written communication, interpersonal, public relations, and presentation skills.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills; attention to detail; efficient, resourceful, excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to thrive in an all-hands-on-deck atmosphere, ability to multi-task.

  • Experience using Microsoft 365 and Google Suite.

Preferred Skills and Experience:
  • Experience using customer relationship management (CRM) platforms such as Salesforce, Pardot, Marketing Cloud, and Slate.

  • Experience using USC Student Information Systems (SIS).

  • Familiarity with USC admission and enrollment policies but not required.

  • Familiarity with federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid policies and practices desired but not required.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree, Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience: 0 - 2 years experience

Minimum Field of Expertise: Counseling skills and/or academic advisement experience

Compensation

The hourly rate range for this position is $28.35 - $31.49. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Additional Information:

The Admission Counselor I position is a hybrid position, with the expectation of 3 days of weekly onsite work at USC's University Park Campus located in Los Angeles, California. This role is not eligible for fully remote work.
