Description A Brief Overview

The Nurse Midwifery Education Program (MEP) Director is a Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM) who meets all job requirements of the Certified Nurse-Midwife (CNM), having graduated from an ACNM-accredited education program and achieved certification through the American Midwifery Certification Board. In addition to meeting the job requirements of a faculty nurse-midwife, and under the direction of the Director, Division of Midwifery, the MEP Director not only provides exemplary clinical care in collaboration with an OB/GYN physician group and holds privileges with the University Hospitals of Cleveland, but also provides academic leadership for the nurse midwifery program. The Director holds a faculty appointment in the Department of Obstetrics & Gynecology and an academic appointment.As program leader, the MEP Director is responsible for the direction, administration, and continuous improvement of the nurse midwifery academic program. Key responsibilities include curriculum development, faculty recruitment and mentorship, student admission and evaluation, budget oversight, and ensuring compliance with accreditation standards and institutional policies. The Director fosters clinical partnerships, supports high-quality student learning experiences, and serves as the program's primary representative to accrediting bodies and professional organizations. All duties are performed in adherence to system and department compliance policies, applicable laws and regulations, and the mission of advancing midwifery education and practice.

What You Will Do

  • 1. Directs the functioning of the Nurse Midwifery Education Program including coordinating faculty assignments, development of the academic calendar and student placement sites.
  • 2. Responsible for curriculum, development, evaluation and revision, student selection and policy development.
  • 3. Ensures the availability of needed teaching resources, materials, clinical sites and physical space.
  • 4. Facilitates contract development with all clinical sites.
  • 5. Coordinates and promotes faculty development activities. Supervises faculty including orientation and evaluation.
  • 6. Directs general administrative activities for the Education Program including student loan programs, grant development and resource allocation.
  • 7. Assists the Division Director with MEP budget development.
  • 8. Maintains a smooth interface between clinical services and the Education Program.
  • 9. Works in cooperation with state and federal agencies as required or directed.
  • 10. Attends and participates in a variety of meetings, conferences and seminars.
  • 11. Maintains an active role in the American College of Nurse-midwives and other professional organizations as appropriate.
  • 12. Adheres to system and department compliance policies, and any and all applicable laws and regulations. Observes all health and safety requirements.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
