Job Description

The Director of Admissions provides supervision, leadership, innovation, and data informed direction for all functions related to college Admissions recruitment, prospect management, recruitment-related events and outreach, and application process. The Director will be visible on both campuses and partner with community agencies on both campuses to provide a seamless transition regardless of student educational background. The Director will work collaboratively with all entities of the college, such as faculty, Marketing and Communications, Deans, and the Vice President of Academic Affairs, to develop admissions strategies that will increase enrollment of a diverse student body. The Director of Admissions will stay current with best practices, learning trends and legal rulings pertaining to recruiting and admissions practices and will advocate for support programing as needs arise. This position will supervise full-time, and part-time, professional and support staff, and will oversee the supervision of student workers.

A. Develop, supervise, and administer the Admissions department.

  • Responsible for providing direction and leadership to admissions staff in conceptualization and implementation tactics related to recruitment, admissions funnel to support SCC strategic enrollment strategies focusing on specific student populations including high school, adult pathways students of color, underrepresented and/or underserved populations, veterans, international, displaced workers, and others.
  • Develop recruiting and marketing materials, including website, to support enrollment strategies in collaboration with Communications and Marketing
  • Develop and implement a sustainable communication plan for prospective and new students to keep them abreast of their enrollment status, missing information, and next steps of enrollment
  • Coordinate Enrollment Policy and Procedure appeal process.
  • Direct outreach programs including campus visits, high school visits, Minnesota State recruitment events, College Information Nights in Somali and Spanish languages, Family Night, campus tours, open houses, etc.
  • Support campus programming including National Technical Signing Day, Career Navigator, Tour of Manufacturing, academic faculty outreach programs and other Secondary Relations events.
  • With Secondary relations, coordinate PSEO/concurrent enrollment efforts and campus-based events including semesterly high school counselor visits.
  • Oversee processing of applications to ensure timely response and ongoing communication with prospective and admitted students.
  • Oversee international student admissions including serving as the Designated School Official (DSO) and providing direction to the International Student Enrollment Advisor.
  • Create and implement a plan to support undecided students
  • Coordinate communication with academic deans, department chairs and faculty regarding program recruitment.
  • Implement strategic enrollment initiatives to advance the College's Strategic Enrollment Plan
  • Utilize enrollment reports to drive recruitment efforts.
  • Assess effectiveness of departmental services in support of continuous improvement and co-curricular assessment.
  • Develop program recruitment strategies with academic deans and Marketing & Communications.

B. Responsible for the direction, supervision and administration of Admissions staff at the Faribault and North Mankato campuses.

  • Authorize salary and non-salary expenditures.
  • Initiate hiring process, direct work, and manage employees.
  • Evaluate employee performance standards and review training goals.
  • Manage daily operational procedures for the multiple Admissions functions.
  • Authorize employee leave and approve timesheets.
  • Initiate disciplinary actions when necessary.
  • Provide training for departmental employees.
  • Formulate, develop and manage annual budget and expenditures that adequately meets personnel and operational needs.
  • Conduct regular staff meetings to provide communication with related departments ensuring consistency of department policy, procedures, and activities

C. Complete other duties to ensure the successful operation of Student Affairs, Academic Affairs, and South Central College.

  • Represent Admissions at all division and college-wide committees at the direction of the supervisor, for example, Student Affairs Leadership Team, Management Team Meetings, Strategic Enrollment Planning Committee, etc.
  • Represent South Central College to the Minnesota State system, for example, Admissions Director's meetings, etc.
  • Collaborate with Vice President of Retention and Outreach to promote access and opportunity to targeted student populations.
  • Maintain current memberships with professional organizations for enrollment and recruitment, such as the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (AACRAO), Upper Midwest Region AACRAO (UMACRAO), etc.
  • Foster professional working relationships across campus with senior administration, student affairs staff, deans, faculty, staff, and students.
  • Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives and Co-curricular Assessment Plan for the Admissions department.
  • Use data to inform strategic enrollment and admissions efforts.
  • Align departmental goals and objects to the SCC Strategic Plan.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

Grid 16E - Range 18

$33.61 - $48.66

Minimum Qualifications

  • Three years of relevant Admissions experience. A bachelor's degree in education or related field may be substituted for experience as follows: Associates=6 months; Masters = 18 months

  • Experience working with diverse populations, perspectives and abilities

  • Interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain working relationships with students, parents, staff, faculty and administrators

  • Demonstrated presentation skills for external audiences

  • Experience assessing programs and overall department effectiveness for continuous improvement

Preferred Qualification

  • Multilingual or multicultural background or experience working with underserved populations.

  • Three years of experience supervisory or leadership experience

  • Supervisory experience leading multiple initiatives, projects and diverse teams

  • Demonstrated knowledge of admissions processes, enrollment management strategies, and best practices in student recruitment

  • Experience using data analysis and technology tools to inform decision-making and improve recruitment outcomes
